O.k. it?s definitely time to upgrade my video card. The last time I bought one was my TNT2 Ultra, (Ouch :Q). Anyway I have obviously been away from the video card scene for a while and I want to know what your opinion is about which manufacturer makes the best GeForce TI4600.

I suppose it all depends on what your definition of "best" is. If you're into overclocking you're obviously gonna want something thats overclockable.. basically all manufactures use the same Geforce chip, its just small features that may differentiate one card from another. For example some cards may add Tv-out some may not... some may have DVI some may not. etc.. I personally have a Leadtek Geforce4 ti4400. I chose that one mainly because of its looks. HAHAHAHA .. whatever floats your boat i guess.. heres some brands to look at.. maybe you can do a quick search for each and look at their specs and choose one that suits your needs..

Chaintech
Powercolor
Evga
Leadtek
Asus
Inno3D
Gainward
Visiontek
Msi

Is there any particular reason you like them better over the other companys?

better quality or is it prices or maybe the companies service?

<That question is for telinar>

Kendogg has your card from leadtek given you any problems? If so has the company been good about resolving those?

Also I'm not familiar with "DVI" what does that stand for?

Thank you for listing some brands I'm visiting company websites right now.

Just for some feedback though I'm looking for a high end gaming card and now that you mention it T.V. out wouldn't be so bad either.

Recomendations??

I believe I had my Leadtek card since July? or earlier.. but I have yet to experience any type of problem.. everything has been working the way it should. Main reason like i stated above was because the cosmetics of the card look here as you can see from the pix this card has a monster heatsink.. this sorta stuff turns me on :D no jk.. also I needed the TV-out feature for watching DVDS on my tv. Instead of the traditional analog connector we usually see on CRT monitors newer LCD panels feature DVI or digital video input.. This is a good feature to have in the case of upgrading to a LCD panel that supports DVI. Supposedly DVI has crisper display.. I have yet to try.

As for you wanting a high end video card.. i can guarantee that any ti4600 you purchase, performance wise you will be more than please with it.

Thanks a bunch for all the info you have provided I beleive that the leadtek is the way to go. I looked on there website and it looks like that card they sell comes with all kinds of nifty little extras such as converting that DVI out an analog connection if you want to use dual monitors. It also looks like it comes with a load of software.

I said Gainward because in many graphics cards comparisons, Gainward comes out a little ahead in performance compared to it's competitors. Also, Gainward supposedly designs their cards for overclocking. Finally, Gainward cards just look real cool. I've never owned a Gainward card though.

Most of the graphics cards I buy are from MSI. Although MSI is a very well-known compnany, their graphic cards seem to be priced below the competition's, which is why most of my graphic cards are built by MSI. All of my MSI graphics cards so far have been solid.

yo, i've been eying the 4600's for some time & the msi seems like one of the best deals to me. it has a great software bundle including 3 full games, dvd player, a bunch of game demos, and miscellaneous goodies. none of the 4600's are stellar oc'ers, but that's 'cause they're already at the top of the perfomance curve for the geforce4 gpu. the msi card also include the dvi->vga converter - i think this is pretty standard now.

oh, and i do *just happen* to have one for sale ... ;). pm me if you're interested!

I have an Abit Ti4600 that has done me no wrong and looks pretty cool with it's Black PCB and silver ramsinks and HSF. I'm selling it right now too. I still have the cables for it and all the documentation and such. It doesn't overclock at the core too well though and I'd recommend putting a 3rd party HSF on there if you plan to do any real overclocking. The Ramsinks seem to do their job and I've gone up so far as 750Mhz without trouble, but the core never went above 310 without some instability which I attribute to the HSF not being as efficient as others.

leave me a PM or email me at dredded1@bellsouth.net if you want more info or have any questions.

Gainward and Leadtek are both great brands.

MSI has loud fans and sometimes poor 2D image quality.

I have had 2 cards from Leadtek a G3 and the G4 TI 4600 they are very good cards. I now have the Radeon 9700,the G4 is also the best looking G4 on the market for those that have windows in the side of their cases.

I see no mention of PNY here. This is the card I have. Performs just as well as any other card...give or take a few fps. No frills card. You get the ultra-crappy Star Wars Starfighter game, and a pretty purple card.

Here's a little snippet of their warranty:

"PNY Technologies, Inc. ("PNY"), manufacturer of your newly purchased PNY graphics card (the "product"), warrants the product to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product"

yeah, i was really worried about the msi fan, but it wasn't loud at all - in fact, even with my ear right next to it it only makes a faint "whooshing" sound. my western digital 120gb, 8mb cache hard drive is way louder - it makes this really annoying high-pitched whine.

2d image quality seemed ok to me, tho not at as good as my radeon 8500

I've had problems with two consecutive GeForce3 cards from Gainward, and apparently I'm not alone, so I'd be hard pressed to recommend them at this point, despite the rave reviews they get about speed and performance. Speed is great, but I like my video cards to stay working for more than 4-5 months.

The PNY card is made by MSI...I'm interested in this purple card myself. How well does it overclock?

Is Ti4600 really worth buying now? Because probably in 3 months, NV30 will be released and Ti4600 price will be blown to water, just like Geforce3 Ti200 after Geforce4 came out.
I am thinking of buying this card now too, but I want to know if it'd be better if I wait for Christmas.

Thanks,
William

i too have been doing some research...MSI and Gainward have caught my eye during this research. I just ordered the Gainward 650 XP GS which i'm hoping to get in two days...the reviews I heard from that card compared to the MSI G4 Ti 4400 VTD are the same...both run pratically the similar to each other but of course the 4400 is better because its a 4400 while the 650 is a 4200 but overall, not much difference. I'lll get back to this after I get the card hehehe and test it out =)
