Which linux for me?

I hope this doesn't get asked around alot, but I am looking for a linux OS for my laptop. So far I used Redhat 7.2 with mixed results. The laptop is an oldie, p166mmx with 64mb ram and 3.2gb hd. My needs are actual very simple. All I need is something that can run Apache, PHP, Mysql, and a web browser. All the web services are going to run locally on my network as well as on the road. I was hoping for a some sort of quick linux web server like e-smith, but I am not sure that supports pcmcia, esp with network cards. I tried redhat 7.2, but it ran a little slow and wouldn't work when I hooked up an external mouse. I would like to have some sort of xwindows installed. Forgive me, but I am noob and use webmin.

One alternative I thought of was going back to redhat, but instead go with a different xwindows interface. KDE is nice, but too slow. I configured blackbox, but that one is a bit too stripped down for me. Is there other alternatives that will run nicely and still support a web browser without looking stripped down, aka blackbox?

Stupid question, but is konqouer (spelling) can only run with KDE?

If you want the eye candy that comes with the newer distributions you will need a faster machine if you want more visual speed. You might try IceWM.
Konquerer is a KDE app, but it will run under Gnome if you have the KDE libraries installed.

KDE is quite bloated and intended for newer machines. Gnome is the same. Blackbox is not too stripped down, its perfect dammit! 😉

IceWM has a Windows 95ish look to it. Simple, clean, fast. WindowMaker is a wm I didnt use much, but it was visually appealing and quite quick. Fluxbox is a blackbox wanna be, not quite as good as the original, but shouldnt be bad (probably too bare bones for you). I suggest trying IceWM and WindowMaker, but maybe someone else has other ideas for you to also try.
