Basically, im sick and tired of windows XP and its tearing effect, which is a known bug in the GDI that takes place on some systems. Mine is one of those systems. Apparantly windows Vista fixes this bug, but im not going to get Vista since its still not stable enough to be the primary OS.
And so, through much reading, i have discovered that Linux doesnt have such tearing, and is apparently a solid OS. Now clearly its not as compatible as Windows XP, but since my only intention is to use a basic media player to play back an AVI animation, and nothing else, and since the ATI card has Linux drivers, then im thinking about making the switch. Im pretty certain that the rest of my system will be compatible.
So im concerned about two questions.
one, will an AVI animation run in Linux, since i dont feel like redoing all my animations.
two, what is the best Linux OS for me.
Thanks.
