I have a thinkpad (the only kind i will ever buy - i love the trackpoint! ) 380D - 150MHz, 48MB of RAM, 2.1GB hdd, neomagic..whatever - and i have Debian Woody installed on it. I know it can handle X for short amounts of time (after about an hour things get weird) - but it handles console pretty nice. I thing you could probably run X comfortably with those specs, but that small amount of RAM wil hold you back.

It really depends on if you want console or X (gui) functionality. If you haven't already checked it out, consult the Linux Distribution Chooser.

Damn Small Linux is what I usually say for something this old. It's Debian-based anyway.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I've used that - and even with my processor being half as powerful as yours - it worked awesome -even with the gui.

cool i'll look in to it. i hope it has a gui.

btw, i'm not sure between kde and gnome. i have used gnome with ubuntu, but it has this annoying thing where if you navigate to a folder it'll open a new window. i end up with like a ton of annoying windows. is there an easy way to just have it open to a folder in the same window? i think i might go with kde.

KDE and GNOME might be a little bit too heavy for that machine. That's why DSL uses Fluxbox.

While it may not have all the fancy-looking features, it's not ugly. Look.
