Which LCD

I have narrowed a search for a 22-inch widescreen LCD to be used mostly for gaming to these two: Samsung 226BW or LG 226 WTQ-BF.

I understand there are 3 panel versions of the Samsugn and that it is a crapshoot which one you get until you open the box. There is a 226CW and I understand that, for more money, you are guaranteed a Samsung panel.

I also have heard of ghosting problems with the LG.

I have seen them side-by-side and there isn't much to choose between them visually, so I was wondering about reliability and the crapshoot.

Any comments?

Edit: This should be in the LCD Thread, but I can't seem to post it there.

Have a look in the Ratings on the first page of The LCD Thread. Both the Samsung 226BW and LG L226WTQ are good choices. It could be worth having a look at the HP w2207. It has a glossy panel that you might fall in love with, and it uses either a Samsung or an LG panel.

As for the Samsung 226CW, there is a French-language review HERE

You can translate the article with Google. Basically, the 226CW has problems with color fidelity and slow response time. It has an extended color gamut, but this is of no use if the colors are off. Not worth the premium price.

If you are not in a hurry, you can also wait for the LG L227W series, coming for the holidays, which will have a LG panel with extended color gamut

if you buy the Samsung in a retail store you can always make up some excuse and return it if you get a bad one, then buy it somewhere else. I'd go with that though over the LG.

Thanks. One thing is that the LG is on sale right now at Best Buy for $50 less than the Samsung. I'll look into the HP.
