I am looking to buy a new monitor for my computer. I have about $350 of Circuit City Gift Cards so that is where I am looking to buy my monitor. I ran across a couple of choices that have gotten good reviews so I want to know what people think, or if they have a better choice. I am looking at the Gateway FPD2185W 21", HP f2105 21", and the Samsung SyncMaster 204B. I saw the Gateway and HP at a local store today. Both were nice looking. I play games like Battle for Middle Earth 2 and Empire at War. Love playing games like NeverWinter as well. I like watching movies in my home office too. So, what does everybody think. This is going with my new computer that I am building.

P.S. Any thoughts on buying an LCD TV that has PC inputs?

I have never been dissapointed by Samsung. But it's always best to use the monitor in person before buying.

I have always bought my LCDs at Staples as the manager there lets me bring in my PC and try the monitors on my video card before I buy.

Of those three, we have two at work.
The Gateway & the Samsung.

I can't speak for the HP, but the Gateway is a better monitor than the Samsung IMO.

The contrasts between colors seem more accurate on it, & the viewing angles are horrible on the Samsung.

Of course, you also get the video inputs (composite, s-video, component), the built in USB hub, & HDCP compliancy with the Gateway.

Both have portrait mode (pivot capability).

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the info. Good to see that you like the Gateway, I have been leaning towards it, I wonder how it is for games?

Meh, i'm not sure i'd say i like the Gateway, just i'd prefer it over the Samsung.

I actually like the design of the Samsung better, & i don't really like widescreens that are lower than 1920x1200, but the Gateway's picture does seem to be better quality.

I'd suggest considering the NEC Multisync 20WMGX2: http://www.necdisplay.com/products/Prod...lassificationFamily=2&Classification=1

Sure, it's not cheap, but it'll be far better than the ones you're presently deliberating over.
