which lcd screen would be better for me?

i currently have a 19 inch crt lg t910b monitor and wish to upgrade it to a lcd monitor.

I have been looking at the following lcd screens but look at the specs im not sure whether the contrast levels and response time mean more than the dvi. Which would be the better the bigger contrast and brightness or the dvi?

- Samsung 710N, analog,12ms refresh, 600:1 contrast, 300 brightness

OR

- AOC DVI, 16ms refresh, 450:1 contrast, 250 brightness

between those two, i would choose the samsung because they are far more reputable than AOC (never even heard of). furthermore, the difference between dvi and vga are almost impossible to differ to the average user, especially if you look at the name brand lcds. but why limit yourself to only 2 choices? did you look at other models? what is your price range?

I'd probably go with the Samsung as well, due to their reputation. But in all honesty it won't matter that much either way.

May I suggest NEC? Their 17xx series is excellent.

I actually am convinced of one thing: DO NOT BE CHEAP ON A MONITOR! A monitor will keep for 5 years or more. Thats longer than any component in your rig save maybe the floppy drive 😉. It is also the component that makes a large difference even to your health/eyesight. If I were shopping for a screen at this moment I would want the following: TFT flat panel - forget CRT but you are doing this already, DVI - because the panel IS digital and the unnecessary step of converting digital to analog and back to digital is pure bunk and just makes no sense at all, 450:1 and 250cd brightness are just fine unless you are sitting in a glass porch in the sun (have a client that has his office like this, CRTs just wont work, superbright 300cd TFTs did the job but when inside they have to be dimmed).

The specs of the AOC are fine but I wouldn't necessarily go with that brand. They use name brand panels but they tend to have a higher pixel defect rate.

I say: Save another 100 dollars (X-mas is coming soon!!) and get the better Samsung, NEC, LG or whatever you choose.

should i wait for 710t samsung which is digital same specs as the 710n except the "T" is digital....

How much difference will i see in the digital and why

The Samsung 710T is a GREAT LCD. It was so good, I bought another one for dual monitors, one on DVI and the other on VGA. I honestly cannot see any difference between the 2 interfaces. I play Doom3, movies and other games and there is no ghosting. I picked up the second one for $403 delivered when dell had the stackable coupon.
