Which LCD monitor is best for gaming?

I have searched this topic over and over again on this board and there appears to be a wide disparity with respect to preferences for the best gaming LCD monitor.

My price range is between $300 and $500.

It appears to be the consensus on this forum that a 19" might be the best choice.

For 19" monitors I am torn between the Viewsonic VP191B ($450 at newegg) and the Hyundai L90D+ ($332). Obviously, the Hyundai has it on price, but I wonder about the difference in quality.

In this price range, I also see that I can get a Dell 2005FPW for about $460 and it appears that if I am patient and time it right that price can be cut significantly.

Is the Dell 20.1 Widescreen that much better?

I would think that the Dell would be the choice over the Viewsonic at that price.

What do you think?

Also, any suggestions as to the best place to get a new monitor would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Dell 2005FPW is the best gaming monitor so far, IF your GPU can handle it or you don't mind black bars surrounding your game. What are you running for a graphics card?

Well, that actually depends upon your price sensitivity and the perceived value of the size difference.

In my case, I don't think that I could get the 2405FPW for anything less than twice the cost of the 2005FPW and while I am sure that the extra large monitor would be very impressive, I don't think that I would be willing to pay that much more for that much more benefit.

If my price range extended to $1,000, then I would definitely go for that monitor.

Make sense?

On the other hand, do you know something that I do not? Can I get a 2405FPW for around $500?

Check out the sites below for good monitor reviews. Those guys seem to know a good deal about LCD monitors and their struggle to match CRT's with respect to refresh rates. The main thing to know is that the manufacturer's quoted refresh rate does not necessarily indicate its peformance in games. I'm of course referring to the dreaded tearing or ghosting seen in earlier LCD's. I personally have a Samsung 710T, and while it's no match in terms of refresh rate to my old Sony Trinitron, I have gotten used to the refresh rate and very much like not having to lug a 60 pound monitor everytime I move to a new apartment.

That'll run anything fine at pretty much any LCD's native res. I agree with you on the 2005 vs 2405. The widescreen is nice, but many games don't support it and it's actually smaller (shorter) which can be annoying for websites and productivity. All up to your tastes though.

Yeah, I just wish that I had gotten in on the deal that they offered last month. Something like 33 or 43% off. Now, it is 25% off.

My order will now be placed "in production" according to Dell. So, they obviously don't have them in stock.

Sigh. . .
