Both companies have proven that there engines are realiable and are built to last unlike (*cough Ford ). I have heard many stories in which honda engines have n thousand miles on. but i rarely hear the same for toyota. For example, there was a recent thread asking how many miles are on your L=Honda enigne]http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=803885&highlight_key=y&keyword1=honda[/L]. Personally I have a friend who has 90 Honda accord v6 which 262,000 miles on the orginal engine/transmission. and the another friend has a 82 Toyota camry that has 225,000 miles orginal engine/transmission.

so in your humble opioion (sp) which last longer ........ Honda or toyota?

Toyota.

My old roommates family is a total Toyota family, and each one of the cars they have owned have ALL had 500,000+km on them without major repairs.

Honda stays in shape longer, though both lasts about the same. I think Toyota feels stronger when its new, Toyota has better tranny than Honda also.
This is on some Accord and Camry experience.

TOYOTA all the way! My Dad's RAV4 had 85,000 miles on it and still running hard, but it was totalled when the car flipped. The engine is reliable, but not the body style....(too tall and narrow).

Toyota I'd say prob. has the edge for reliability overall.. although I know some Hondas with 300+ kms and running fine.. as with Toyota's too.

You can't go wrong either way.

Although I bought a new 2002 Honda Accord SE (for $2,000 UNDER invoice) yesterday I'd have to vote for Toyota.

Back in the mid-90's my friends first car was a ghetto brown ugly 1980 Toyota Corolla manual. I swear to you, the engine was in better shape then cars 15 years NEWER. It was a simple 4 cylinder, not a huge amount of power or torque but the engine was smooth, quiet and efficient. He sold that car for $1,200 (the same price he paid) and I'll bet you that it's still running.

My 1994 Toyota Corolla DX has over 101,000 miles on it and it runs great. If the new Camry's didn't drive like a boat then I would have seriously considered buying that.

Depends on the how you maintain..and this goes for most cars of all makes and models.

A friend of mine has an '88 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser (station wagon) with about 330k km on it..and it runs beautifull! Sure the car rattles and squeaks and handles worse than a boat..but it runs relaibily..and since he got it for free, its the best to him! <he needs his money for his commercial pilot license>

I don't know, I think both make great engines, but I like Honda CARS better in general.

BTW, honda did not offer a V6 in '90. All US Accords had the same engine, a 2.2 L SOHC 16 valve inline 4 with balance shafts.

Normall I would respond to your posts and ask you what experience with cars you have. Since your Laker's thread when the Kings lost I realize you are just a whiny little bitch who thinks his own sh!t doesn't stink. Because of the aforementioned I will not even reply to your statement.

Wasn't there something about Rotary engines like they put in the old RX7's that those things lasted near forever?

I told my friends we couldn't drive my 1982 Volvo GLE with ultra unreliable Renault V6 on our road trip to California because it really was unreliable.

When asked if they would volunteer their cars, they replied they couldn't because there cars wouldn't make the trip either.

They own respectively:

1991 Toyota Camry V6 with 90,000 miles
1996 Honda Accord LX with 80,000 miles.

Bunch of dorks.

In my experience, honda is more reliable. Honda parts and toyota parts really aren't that cheap anymore for some reason. You really can't go wrong with either cars in terms of reliability. Honda has proven themselves as makers of reliable cars, and toyotas forte is also reliability. The reliability is due to simplicity in their engines and being just well designed.

What model fords have you owned and what year?

Don't get me wrong, I would take an old (30+) years Ford anyday over a 30+ Toyota. I see you have a 2000 Mustang. My brother drives a '68, with the original engine. Good car for it's age. I drive a '95 Corolla...let's see whose car is still running 32 years from now:D

...oh yeah it has to be stock, so your car doesn't count.

One of my cousins once bought a 86 or so Accord hatch with 400k on the odo. He put on another 30 or 40 b4 he got rid of it. My Accord, 91, currently has 126k on it and runs like its new.

Driving habits do have something to do with it, but in my experience not as much as everybody thinks. Another cousin drove the sh*t out his 91 Civic hatch, redlining, running w/ 1 quart of oil, things like that. When he sold his car it still ran quite well. (8 years and 150k+ miles later). I guess my family, immediate and extended has more experience with Hondas though my parents currently drive Toyotas.

engines on GMs last forever, as well as ford and dodge trucks. i've never had a problem with the engine in my taurus either, except for that one time when a seal rotted. stuff happens to a 9 year old car.

now the transmission, on the other hand...

(its midas's fault anyway for changing the fluid)

86 Camry with 210,000. 94 Acura Legend 120,000

Both toyota and honda engines will last a long time with regular care. I think every car in our house has over 100,000 miles, including an old school bmw. Not too shabby.

I vote Toyota. My parents each had one a while back (a Corolla, and a Cressida) and they lasted a really long time. Quite a bit longer than the cars that replaced them. The funny thing is they didn't stop driving them because they didn't work but because they fell apart.
