Hi,

I am looking to buy a BLACK & WHITE LASER PRINTER for office use. My requirements will be printing (~50 pages a day maximum), photocopies (~50 pages a day maximum), scanning (color & B+W). I live in Mumbai, India, so some of the US models may not be available here. I do not need Fax capabilities.

Thus, can you please recommend which BRAND I should go for? The choices I have are HP, CANON, SAMSUNG, BROTHER and LEXMARK.

Any other tips I should keep in mind when buying a multi function laser printer, please let me know.

Thanks,
desidude

Canon makes good printers. Some Brothers are good too. Stay away from LexMark and certain current HPs. Some of the older higher end HP business units are actually fantastic.

I have had Brother laser and HP. My old Laserjet 4000 is built like a tank and just keeps on keeping on. Don't forget to look at Xerox and Minolta as well.

My take is that its somewhat hard to go totally wrong, but be willing to pay a bit more to get large toner cartridge size, because in high volume use, any decrease in per page consumable cost adds up in the long run.

To somewhat prove myself a liar in not taking my own advice, I bought a used very cheap brother all in one laser with only a 2500 page rated toner cartridge. But I am a low volume laser printer user, so I can ignore my own advice. Our OP is already a well above average laser user, so his considerations become different.

My other advice is that by the time you buy a decent All in one laser, having faxing ability does not cost much more. Even if our OP does not think they need fax abilities now, they may discover the need later.
