Get the powerbook, and with the money saved from the T41 add the Superdrive .

The IBM. Apple has that crap-tastic electrostatic pad for a mouse instead of the trackpoint and IBM's ThinkPad keyboards pwn Apple's POS laptop keyboards. IBMs are expensive, but they don't break and they are built like tanks.

A little bit of everything. Mostly General internet use and web programming. Also watching DVDs, playing music, whatever. Some programming in cross-platform languages like Python and Java.

64bit, dvd burner, Radeon 9600, etc.. can be had for under $1500 at most reatil shops

I will go with a IBM notebook in the future. About a year ago, I really thought about getting an apple powerbook but the performance is just too crappy. A co-worker has a Powerbook with a 800MHz CPU and 1GB RAM and Mac OS X is really crawling. I couldn't get my stuff done on such a slow machine. Personally for me, Mac OS X is just not responsive enough. I would go with the IBM notebook.

Get the new 15" Powerbook with 9700. I just ordered the 1.5Ghz w/9700 128MB Superdrive version today.
