Hey everyone, IM just wondering which LAptop Would be a better purchase at this point.
The emachine M68XX series or the Acer AS2012WLMi
Acer Lappy

Im wondering which one would be better for gaming since the acer has the newer 9700 mobility chip but the emachine has the amd 64 processor.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
thx a ton

Err I have my M6805 and I love it. At default settings, the aspire might edge out the M6805 but the thing is, the emachines can overclock like CRAZY. I have my CPU (A64 3000+ @1.8) running at 2ghz and my vid card overclock to 412/216 (up from 300/200 !!) and it runs doom 3 silky sweet. The best part is, these overclocks are extremely typical (meaning just about any M68xx user can do them) The aspire however, does have the M68xx beat out in battery life and portability. Your decision.

I bought both. First got the M6805. I really liked it, but it was very heavy and bulky. When the dreaded hinge crack problem appeared, I just thought screw it and I sold it. I travel with my laptop a lot and if it's so fragile and heavy, it wasn't the right choice for me.

So now I have the Aspire. It's slightly lighter (by two pounds) and much thinner. Battery life is better. It has a DVD burner. Bad things about the Aspire: 1) Mine arrived from NewEgg dead, so I had to ship it to Acer for repair. I got it back after one week, as promised. Running like a charm now. (2) As mentioned above, the Acer doesn't OC like the M68xx.

IMO, the graphics chip is more important than the CPU for gaming purposes. Seems like games are not CPU limited, certainly not by a Pentium M.

Can't go wrong with either one, so it depends on your specific circumstances.

If you're getting an M6809 or better, go with the Emachines.
With overclocked GPU, it'll outperform the Acer (FPS).

The 1.5Ghz P-M really holds the GPU back...

With some overclocking, the Acer would probably pull back ahead in performance, but I've heard they don't overclock well. (not confirmed)

If you're more concerned with battery life, get the Acer. If you can overclock it's GPU, it'll go head-to-head with the M6809 and lag slightly against an M6810 or 11..

I'd get the Acer myself....pretty good laptops overall...I'm not totally convinced that eMachines has their act together yet...but thats all just IMO stuff.....In all honesty, I had a Thinkpad w/ the 1.5 chip in it, and it was quite snappy in games - I never complained on performance - and that was with just a R7500 32mb
