Hey guys... just help me sort this out..

I will be buying either a Dell Inspiron 5150 or a Inspiron 8500 with the next 2 days...
The wieght is only 0.3 kg more in the case of the 5150, as is the 0.3 inches of thickness.

Advantage 8500
1) Wieght
2) Screen (15.4")
3) Thinner
4) Looks better
5) Has all the ports (IR, Parallel ... etc.)

Advantage 5150
1) Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 processor at 3.06GHz
2) 533 MHz Front Side Bus
3) PC 2700 at 333mhz memory
4) Better battery time...

So .. which one should i buy....
I hate the 5150 looks... but love the power...

I will have to hang on to the machine for the next 2 years..

Thanks in advance...

It depends on what you want the machine for. If it is a desktop replacement and will be your only/main computer, go for the power and features which bring it closest to a desktop in performance. If it is only an occasional use machine or will just be used mainly for word processing, etc, go for the cheapest because power will only be wasted. The physical overall looks of the machine is the least important.

You will quickly tire of a machine that looks good but does not suit your needs otherwise.

Id definitely say performance computer. If this is going to last you for a while then for sure performance.

The reason I wouldnt choose the cool look under any circumstances is exactly the same as egales, unless you need portability and functionality, but if your doing gaming, or something of the sort, definitely PERFORMANCE!

You have not said what you will be using the laptop for so there is now way to make a solid suggestion.

And even after reading all the amazing stuff about the 5150 which you pointed out, i ordered the 8500.

I know the 8500 is not much more "mobile" than the 5150, but the dimensions(thickness) and specially the colour of the 5150 was not acceptable to me in the end.

Still love the 5150 though, amazing power, just wish it was inside the body of a 8500/8600!!
