I had a wireless router before but it was a DSL one and I can't remember if these sorts of routers have ethernet-in ports that can take in an internet connection and emit it wirelessly.

I'm living on school accomodations and the internet is provided through an ethernet jack, rather than a cable line or phone line. Can I just use any old kind of wireless router (e.g. ADSL)?

In case it matter, I live in the UK (Scotland).

Many thanks for the help.

Your memories are probably related to a Combo of DSL Modem and a Router.

That was the happy memories of yesterday. Now you need a Wireless Router only device (No need for a Modem anumore).

It would get the input from network cable (WAN) and will provide on the other side
(LAN) 4 wired ports and Wireless capacity.

That is assuming that your new connection supports Routers and that they are allowed.

Example for a standalone Wireless Router,
