<< I have an IWill KA266 mobo with a 1.4 T'bird running Windows XP and I hope to overclock the CPU using the multiplier and the fsb. This mobo supports only DDR ram and I want to get the best ram for it . I have been looking at Corsair 2100, 2400 and 2700 ram; but I do not know the difference in the 2100, 2400 and the 2700. Which is best and why. Any comments or links would be appreciated. Thanks >>
PC2100=2.1GB/sec bandwidth and is PC133 at DDR, or 266MHz.
XMS2400 (no PC2400 spec actually exists)=2.4GB/sec bandwidth and is XMS150 at DDR, or 300MHz. Your front side bus must be overclocked to 150MHz to take full advantage of this.
XMS2700=2.7GB/sec bandwith and is XMS166 at DDR, or 333MHz. The front side bus must be clocked to 162.5MHz to take full advantage. While it seems like it would make sense to clock to 166MHz, the Athlon's front side bus is limited to only 2.6GB/sec of bandwidth. I would recommend XMS2700 if you have the money, but XMS2400 and even PC2100 will do just fine.
