My situation:
Grew up in NE, lived in NYC for a year (bored already), definitely want to move to SF and settle there.

Job A in NYC:
Project Manager at a boutique eCommerce startup 2 years old and very small (30~ people). They just secured a huge client and looks like they're doing very well. I see big career growth here too, but this means I'm stuck in NYC. Salary is also higher @ 90K~. Work travel unknown.

Job B in San Fran:
Similar startup but much bigger and established (150~), this means I'm probably not as 'crucial'. BUT I get to travel internationally (South America & Asia). Work travel is something I've always wanted to do but never did. Starts lower at 75-80K AND I get to be in San Fran!

It's bit of a premature dilemma as I don't have the B's offer yet, but it's already giving me a headache.
 
if single, Job B. travel and have fun before you settle down and have kids. 90K for NYC really isnt all that much. Go B, dammit/.

Adjusted for cost of living, both salary are roughly similar.. well SF is quite lower though.

But my primary concern is Job A has lots of room for advancement as it's still in infant stage. But it's in fucking NYC and travel seems unlikely so far. But Job B is constant 50% travel (international!), which I haven't gotten out of my system yet.

You're not getting paid for shit in either position but both being start-ups, pay isn't everything but it's the opportunity.

GF is fine with it, she loves traveling herself so she plans on tagging along for weekend fun.
 
wait, weren't you raving just recently about how much you love NYC and there's so much to do?

SF is a good place but you will not find anything like w32nd street or Hiro or Circle, etc. It took me a while to accept that and learn to adjust my expectations.
 
B sounds like it's better for you, but work travel is not all it's cooked up to be. one girl i work with could easily be on travel every week of the year if she wanted, but she likes to spend time with her husband on occasion 😛
 
how old are you? I'd say SF just because of the weather. Buddy of mine just moved out there from the nyc metro area. He loves it out there
 
Hard to tell. The difference is made up by the travel opportunity but if you can double your income in the NY job in say, 3-5 years, I would go with that.

Yes. I have many friends who do lots of work travel. But I'm terribly suffering from 'grass is greener' syndrome as I've never got to work travel.

No matter how much they grind you, weekends are always free = free travel with GF.

And this sure beats going to same cubicle every day (at least at my stage of life).
 
Wait, is job A the new job in NJ? B/c your description of your current job is not the one listed in your OP from the other thread.
 
get a job in the mid-west for 80$k, you will live like a king compared to those jobs.

this is unless your salary would deflate in the midwest due to those offers being artificially high, because they are on the east & west coasts.
