Given two jobs to choose from, which would you choose?

JOB A - $80k/yr; 15 miles from home; government contract environment; large corporation; health/dental/vision/401(k)/pension; working with technology/equipment you never worked with before (or even heard of); unknown number of co-workers; 8 hour work day; very few extra hours, if any

JOB B - $80k/yr; 25 miles from home; small corporate environment (HQ); small corporation; health/dental/vision/401(k)/profit sharing; working with familiar technology (not too many new things to learn about); one co-worker (IT manager); 8+ hour work day; must be present for occasional (maybe once a month) system maintenance after hours or on weekend; regularly scheduled worker/family activities (parties, picnics, etc.)

UPDATE: Job B e-mailed the wife and told her they could only pay $70k. She was already leaning towards A but the phone call sealed the deal.

No question to me. I'd take Job A. It's closer to home plus you get exposure to new things.

I'd take A ... the only negative about them is the word "government". But B has way more downsides. Although, B's upside seems to be better pay-advancement opportunities. I don't see you getting anywhere financially at job A.

Gov'ts are evil and make you change your identity, they will wipe your brain clean and you will have to get an implant in your filling and they will kill you if you talk about secret projects.

When I was in high school........ one of my friends fathers job was........... to watch porn (Mags & Videos) to see that they conform to Canadian standards (ie. if anything did not comply...... he told them to edit it out or black it out). H was clearing $125K a year in the early 80's. :)

Cheers,

Job A is a "Sr. Network Technologist I". Job B is "Systems Administrator" but I think it should be "IT Guru" since they expect to take care of the firewalls, domain controllers, Exchange server, desktops, etc.
