Hey guys,
First of all, I really appreciate and thank you for any help. I was wondering if you guys can help me out here since I'm a newbie. Which is the better and faster video card for gaming? I usually just play older games mostly like UT99 using OpenGL.

BFG 6600 GT OC 128 MB (specifications are on the right tab):

or

PV-T44A-WANG XFX GeForce 6200 256MB
http://www.xfxforce.com/web/pr...tConfigurationId=79772

I have the BFG 6600 GT card right now but I'm looking for a quiet fanless AGP card under $50. I can probably sell the BFG 6600 for about $30-50. I need more quiet card. Is the XFX 6200 slower or faster? (If you guys have any better recommendations for fanless AGP video cards under $50, let me know)

THANKS

The 6200 will be slower than your 6600GT. Why not keep the 6600GT and just replace the factory fan/heatsink with one of these (Link)?

64bit memrory interface on the 6200...128bit interface on the 6600....6200 would be much slower

Thanks for the help guys. However, it's very important for me to have a pc that is quiet. I play older games anyways. Most of the fan noise is coming from my video card, thermaltake silentboost heatsink for cpu, and power supply fans.

Rockhound, I took a look at those fans. It got me curious so I took out my card and had no trouble disabling the fan, but I had trouble taking out the fan. I can't figure out a safe way to take it out. I'd have to do that in order to replace it.

I'm going to try disabling the fan now.. might not be needed.

Dude, from the pics on newegg it looks like there are 2 black pushdown holders that are securing the fan assembly.

I would just flip the card over, and on the bottom find the black bottom end of the pushdown thats protruding. You should see that it looks like a \ I /
Squeeze the 2 angled pieces together, and then push up towards the card. That bottom piece is a simple retention mechanism.
You may need to turn the top part at the fan side also to 'unlock' it.

Either way, I suspect the fan will be needed. If you can get a thermal reading with the fan off, I would check it carefully.
If it does need active air flow, then you could also try to find a larger heatsink from electronic goldmine or another surplus shop for $2-3 bucks and replace the fan with it.
Go as large as you want, or have space for. More mass is good, but having fins is what really allows for heat dissapation.
You should be able to replace with a cheap chunk/slab cpu cooler from something, and slap that fan back on the top of it with a small variable resistor on it to slow it down.
If you have a large enough heatsink, getting the fan to reliably run at the lowest voltage just to get air moving past the fins should do it.

Thank you fkoehler. I read some post on it and a person mentioned breaking the black thing that holds the fan/heatsink in place. It's meant to be broken to void warranty. I'll try what you said first.
