Which is the better VGA cooler?

Welcome stoene :) The VF700 cools a little better and is quieter at idle. It is also a very well made HS. I use the Silencer only because it allows (in my case) much cooler overall system temps. I've used both. I just controll the fan on the silencer w/ Speedfan so its quieter than the VF700 in my case. Can't go wrong with either IMO.

The Zalman would be my pick, quieter, better performance, higher quality, and cross platform compatibly.

As for monster64.....lets just say he has issues!

You're flaming members foir not agreeing with your Zealotry for Zalman? That's insane. Looking at your last 10 post, one would wonder if you're working for Zalman or just trolling for sake of aggrevation.

Remedy's right, reviews clearly show that the V-1 is the best vga cooler available. However, my vote goes to the Zalman since it is significantly easier to install, and is quieter.

If only it would outperform the vf-700Cu in my case.. With an inverted case design where the heatsink fan faces upwards. :(

Can't you just install the fan on the otherside of the heatsink? Or is it that it doesn't outperform it when the zalman is facing right side up?

I have issues?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont think I have issues!!!!!!!!!

Unless I'm missing something!!!!!!!!!

The V-1 simply performs better then the zalman!!!!!!!

All I was doing was informing the OP that there is something else other than the silencer and zalman!!!!!!!!

That is all I wanted to do!!!!!!!!

Nothing else!!!!!!!!!

Kensai:

Since your mobo upside-down, wouldn't that make your video card sidways, making any vga cooler perform better since its not upside like in a standard case?

The thing about the V-1 in an inverted case is that the heatpipes don't work correctly. They rely on the liquid in the heatpipes to rise to the other side of the hsf with the fan, and then rely on gravity for the condensed liquid to go back to the main gpu. When it's upside-down, obviously it doesn't work, so it's a no go. Sorry Kensai.

I wonder why this is? The XP120 does not have this issue as SPCR reviewed and concluded in their tests. hmmm...

It's because the pipes are curved around, and the steam from the liquid simply won't travel down, nor will the condensed liquid travel back up. It works in the XP because the pipes are horizontal, and don't curve 180 degrees like those in the v-1.

Thanks for the info's. Zalman it is then. And to tip the vessel of knowlege a bit futher,... I used ATItoolbar software to up the Freq.s to 540/540. The GPU started artifacting at 545 but the Mem made it to 545 as was good for more but I want to keep them equal. That was with the stock cooler (AGP 800pro/ temp 51C). Will the Zalman allow more? The bios is set at 475/450. So by up-ing each to 540MHz I'm getting approx. 15% increase in performance? How does increasing frequency increase performance? Is it because a faster clock allows for more instructions to be executed per second? ANY info will lesson my noob-ness. Thanks again for your help, flames and all.

However......big word lets see 7 letters......

My vote goes to Zalman based on usage of both the V-1 and Zalman VF700!!

In my case the zalman did out perform the V-1!!!!

Again as JBDan stated--- The VF700 cools a little better and is quieter at idle. It is also a very well made HS. Yes the Zalman should allow for a little more oc'ing headroom. Use FRAPS to calculate how much more performance you are gaining with your oc'd frequencies. Enjoy your VF700! ;)
