Which is the better memory upgrade path for 939 board

I'm planning to upgrade to an ASUS A8N-E (or possibly another socket 939 motherboard). I currently have two sticks of Corsair XMS 184 pin 256MB DDR PC-3200C2 that I'm using in an ASUS A7N8X. I want a total of one GB RAM for the new system. Would it be practical to buy two additional 256MB sticks of the same RAM for a total of four (since the A8N-E has four DIMM slots)? Would that configuration allow the memory to run dual channel? Or, would it be better (from a performance perspective) to bite the bullet and buy two sticks of 512MB?

I would appreciate your insight and advice.

1) Yes it will still run in dual channel with 4 dimms

2) 2x 512 MB will give you significantly more memory bandwidth, as you'd need to drop to a 2T command rate with 4 dimms.
