4850x2 (not 4870x2 sorry for the slip) ($165)

GTX 260 192core ($115)

XFX 5770 ($130)

I'm looking to pick one of these cards up but not sure on which is better over the other. Budget is $100 but I might be able to spend a little more for a better card. I have only ever used the 5770 (Juniper XT Reference) card.

4870x2 is 2x faster then the other 2 and worth the extra 35/50 dollars.
Next I'd pick a 5770 , last gtx 260 192 sp

The HD 5770 is the best choice for performance with efficiency, although the HD 4870 X2 has the most raw power. Really, none of them are a bad choice. If you're really constrained by your budget the GTX 260 (192) would still be very nice.

The HD 4870X2 usually is slightly faster than the HD 5870, then the HD 5770 and the last the GTX 260 192 which is only a match against the standard HD 4870 512.

4870x2 is light years faster than the other 2. what are you using the card for? what is your feeling about noise/heat? to give you an idea, 4870x2>5870>gtx 470>5850>gtx460>gtx 285>4890>5770~gtx 260 core 192. none of those are particularly big steps, but nonetheless that card is playing in an entirely different league than the other 2. 5770 uses less power than the gtx 260 and has dx11, otherwise they're pretty similar.

btw, I just got a 192 sp gtx 260 for $97 shipped off ebay, $115 seems a little steep for that card unless it's new.

Where you getting a 4870 x2 for $165, that seems like a screaming deal.

Yeah point me in that direction... i'll take it if you don't. I sold mine foolishly, and now I have a 470, which is fast, but not twice as fast as an x2

Seriously.... I'll take it...

not twice as fast? a 470 is not even as fast as the 4870x2.

Good lord, a 4870x2 for $165? Where? That card is no joke and outperforms almost all other single slot solutions out there. The other cards you listed in SLI / Crossfire can at best only match a 4870x2.

HD 4850X2 is faster than a GTX 285 which trade blows with a GTX 460 768MB, not bad though. But I hope you mean the HD 4850X2 1GB.

I'd go with the 5770 out of these. About as fast as a 4890, maybe a little better?
The GTX260 192 is comparable to a 4870.
The 4850x2 is the fastest, but is 165 still a good price for it? I'm not sure. For a 4870x2 that would be a steal.

4890 is almost 20-30% faster than the 5770.

$165 is still a great price for a 4850x2 - are you serious? And a 5770 performs about the same as a GTX 260 192. Techpowerup still uses a 192 in their reviews and it is nearly spot on with the 5770. But it might be worth another $15 for DX11 and a lower power consumption. And the 4890 is indeed decisively faster than a 5770, but more like 15-20 percent.

Anyway as stated, a 4850x2 is faster than a GTX 285. When scaling properly it is Radeon 5850 level - perhaps higher in a few games. It uses a TON of power though, so make sure your PSU is capable. If it is, it will provide you the best performance.

Make sure it is 2x1GB and not 2x512MB. The latter will still outclass the other two cards most of the time, but going into the future may be limited. I'd be wary of 2x512MB.
