Which Is The Best: S-Video or Component?

Hello there. I don't know where I could post this. I think this is the most suitable forum for this type of question.

Anyway, I have a brand new LG HDTV 45'' With a Sony DVP-NS575P DVD Player... But I'm disapointed by the quality of my DVD Movies... The image quality is questionable. The quality was better on my VERY old Sears Television 🙁 Sony bundled some very cheap RCA Cable with my DVD Player... So I'm thinking to buy the Monster Cable Component THX Cable. Or the Monster S-Video THX Cable... But Which is the best?

Does it really make a difference

ugh, here we go again. DO NOT BUY MONSTER CABLES. They are over priced pieces of WIRE. AT MOST go to www.bluejeanscables.com and get one there otherwise go to www.accessories4less.com and pick up a AR cable for less than $30. You can even get Radio shack or cables at www.cablesforless.com. Just don't go out and pay $200 for a component video cable. Do you have progressive scan enabled? Use component and enable progressive scan and you should be amazed .

are you using composite video right now?

Oh and component is better as it will be the only thing to allow you use progressive scan.

Component video keeps 3 components of the video seperate(luminance, the other two channels are actually COLOR difference hency why it usually says yPrPb or something along those lines). IT does NOT keep red green and blue seperate(best buy employees tend to say that 😉)

S-video keeps the signal in two parts Luminance, and chrominance. The difference between this and component is small on normal CRT sets but can be significant when you use HDTV's and progressive scan

just buy any decent component cables, i use audiolink because i think they are nice cables, and not too expensive.
component is definitely better than s-video, but not THAT much, whereas RCA definitely sucks compared to either of the other 2.

RCA cables are any cable with a RCA connector(normal round plug type), you mean Composite video cables. just trying to avoid the OP any confusion

Component cables are nothing more than (3) composite video cables. 🙂

yes I know, but the red and white audio cables are not the same as the composite cable. I don't want the OP thinking he should use a composite/audio cable as a component cable. The person I replied to said RCA sucks...where he meant composite video sucks. Just minor terminology

I wasn't debating that at all, and in fact I specified composite video in my post to further clarify on what type of cable is, and can be, used for a component video cable. 🙂

He never said anything about the audio cables.
