Which is the best partition type for my external 250GB HD?

I've read till my eyes are blurry. I still don't understand which partiiton type is best suitable for my external HItachi 250 GB HD

I've read that I should transfer my pagefile.sys to this drive, fomat it with Fat 32 and allocated 4 GB, but which do I choose? Primary or logical.

Can someone make a recommendation. I'll be using it for photo's/music/books.

Forget about partioning. You have a storage drive... Format it using NTFS and call it a day

Primary and logical are partition types you don't need to worry about it since its an external drive.

And no I would not recommend putting your pagefile on your storage drive unless it is connected all the time.

This will ALWAYS be connected. If the computer is on, the HD will be accessible.

concerning the use of NTFS, I would do that, but disk management is forcing me to decide between three: primary, extended or logical.

Please advise.

Agree with FrequencyX's statement. Besides an external drive would be very slow for the pagefile compared to a HD attached to a PATA/SATA cable. Other than NTFS partitions, you will encounter size limitations with FAT32, which then you would have to create multiple partitions to get the full use of the drive.

I wouldn't worry about the pagefile. And the easiest way is to skip disk management and go into "My computer" right click on the detected 250 and click Format.. Simple as that
