Hello everyone,
I was just wondering what everyone is cooling their overclocked chips with? I was told that the SLK-800 is a Great Heat sink. Then also to combo that up with a Tornado 9 Fan. Anyone have any other suggestions?
I am "trying" to stay on the quieter side, but want a$$ kicking Cooling.
Let me know what you all use or think
Thanks

My vote is below:

L1A Panaflo 80mm on a slk800.

44 underload, high 30s idle. XP2000+

Well after searching around I see that the L1A Panaflo 80mm and the Tornado 9 are great fans. Which is supposedly the better fan?

I am debating on the SLK-800 but does this include a heat sink?

I know that the tornado alone is around $17.00 bucks or so.

Let me know your opinions if I should go with that deal in the link, or the Tornado or panaflo with an slk-800.
Thanks

Then you do not want a tornado fan. ;)

You must of meant fan, the slk800 is a heatsink, no fan comes with it. The YS Tech adjustable fan is a good one and you can control it to make it faster and better cooling when you need it. Or the non-adjustable version. It isn't too loud like the delta's, though you can hear it.

But the better solution is to use the 92mm YS Tech fan on the slk800. It will fit, you may have to bend the clips slightly.

My vote goes to the MCX-4000 and Tornado. 2.53 @ 3.268 (1.5v actual) 28C idle, 36C load 22C ambient. Kept my 1.6a @2.3 (1.6v actual) at 25C idle 32C load. Some of the best temps I've seen for air cooled setups. Also I should mention that I've lapped my hs. Lapped it before I ever used it so I can't say what benifit in temps I gained.

My slk-800 has a quiet 22dB, 25cfm fan on it. As you can see in my sig, my system is overclocked quite a bit. My load temp was 42C until today. I just intalled a passive duct from my side panel to the fan on my slk-800. Now my load temp is 36C.
I use the same 22dB, 25cfm fans for my case and psu as well. They aren't as quiet as the Panaflo L1A mentioned above, which IMO is a better fan. But I got them cheap and they are definately working well.
If you want quiet you don't want a tornado. The slk-800 is such a good heatsink that many people are using very quiet fans with it.
What level of quiet do you want? The YS-Tech variable speed fan mentioned above would be good if you want "kick-ass" cooling with the ability to keep it relatively quiet. It's nice to be able to dial in your level of cooling/noise.

Which is better, the SLK-800(A)
or tyhe SLK-800(U)
These are the specs on the (U)
Now the SLK-800(U) is available with the same screw-through-motherboard mounting as the SLK-900(U) and support for Intel Socket 478 as well as Socket A/462. For just a few dollars more, you get a more secure mounting, even pressure distribution, and Intel compatibility. The SLK-800(U) comes with two sets of clips to support 70x25, 70x38, 80x25, and 80x38 fans sizes. For ultimate performance, we recommend using the 80x38mm tornado fan. For more reasonable performance, any of the 80x25mm fans will be a better choice. A fan speed controller is recommended if you are using a high-speed fan. This will allow you to turn down the speed when you are not stressing the CPU and would like some peace and quiet.

I will be using the Asus A7N8X Deluxe Mother Board and probably the 80x25mm Variable Speed YS-Tech 3-pin Case Fan 10.2~48.5CFM as was recommended.
Let me know if the (U) is the way to go
thanks

Sorry to hijack but pics of the duct? Did you buy it or is it something you made? Thanks.

I'm going to start a new thread about this now.
