if there were a "best" game console, then why would people be buying the other ones?

sorry, not really answering your question cuz i really dont have an answer for that except that each person thinks their console is best.

i have PSII and GameCube.

PSII has a much better selection of games obviously. gamecube loads up faster.

gamecube is smaller but game cube can't play DVD's, which probably won't be an issue for you if you are hooking it up to a HT system (i'm assuming here that you already have a standalone dvd player and don't need to use the PSII as a dvd player.

I'd say Dreamcast is the best bang for the buck. They are dirt cheap, they have MANY good games. And they play burnt games.

My Gamecube fits nicely into my HT setup...I purchased the progressive-scan component cable from Nintendo. 480p is better than composite anyway. F-Zero GX looks sweet in 16:9 widescreen

I'd say gamecube for the games.
I'd say XBOX with chip to play movies, emulators, etc.

Right on. The homebrew scene is amazing.

xbox is my favorite although I haven't spent much time on the other consoles. I think that the graphics are far better on the xbox and I know the sound is just awesome from mine being in DD 5.1. Plus it's capable of resolutions all the way up to 1080i.

If you search the archives for "xbox" or "ps2" or "gamecube" you'll find 1000 of these threads with all sorts of info.

Graphics go in this order usually:

xbox > gamecube > ps2

Online play is the best on the xbox, worst on the gamecube (practically none).

Interestingly enough, apparently MS has been checking LIVE users' hard drives to see if they've been modified. No one has been banned yet, but I imagine it's only a matter of time.

We have an Xbox and PS2 in my household. The only thing I really played on the PS2 was GT3, and I have more fun with PGR2 on the Xbox. Online is absolutely amazing!

I'm also a Ninja Gaiden(Xbox) whore :).
