After checking benchmarks, and seeing that it performs well in games i want to play (HL2,DOD:source), this seems like the budget card to get. What I want to know is , which one is the best to get? One with 256mb?

All replies are welcomed. Thanks.

Get the cheapest one with the amount of RAM you want...if you only need it for a few months, 128MB will be fine (and save you a few bucks).

If you want it to last a (little) longer, go for 256MB.

I have a Leadtech and XFX 6600GT. The XFX fan is louder than the Leadtech but I have not had a problem with either. Played games well until COD2. It will run but not as nicely as on a 7800gt. The XFX has dual DVI and the Leadtech has VGA, DVI, and HDTV component out.

If you are looking for AGP and cheap, I will have a Leadtech 6600GT (128Mb) with HDTV out dongle in abot a week. It will be pulled from my HTPC (replacing with 7800gt). Used about 6 months. PM me if you are interested.

PM me if you are interested.
Otherwise, Newegg's cheapest 6600GT on AGP is the eVGA one, currently only $ 119 (after Mail-In Rebate)...

As for the Refurbed ones, the cheapest one there an eVGA card too, and it only costs $ 124... :D

Obvious choices are these called... ;)

Since when did they start making 6600GTs with 256mb... to my knowledge, NONE EXIST. (but you can get a vanilla 6600 with 256mb... go figure).

Having said that, if you're going to "settle" for a 6600GT (after talking about the 6800GS and 6800GT for so long), I'd at least get the FASTEST 6600GT you can... BFG overclocks theirs right out of the box (and you can make it faster if you want too).

There's lots of good things about the BFG 6600GT OC. Check it out!

XFX has a 6600GT version with 256MB e.g... No doubt about it, that BFGTech is good, but it better should be, as the AGP version of it costs $ 189... For the extra money, you can buy a very decent aftermarket cooler for it, and overclock it yourself... Regular 6600GT's on AGP manage to hit high speeds too...

6600GT isn't worth it with the 256mb of RAM. Get the cheapest one, right now that's the eVGA, good company too.

News to me... I had never seen a 6600GT with 256MB... then again...

Good Lord... $219 for a 256MB 6600GT! No wonder I never heard of them... that's substantially pricier then the BFG 6600GT OC. XFX sure is proud of that extra memory! I still laugh that they make dirt-cheap 256MB vanilla 6600's, but they want to charge an arm and a leg for the extra memory on a 6600GT.

Nah... stick with a 128MB 6600GT... either get the cheapest, or spring for the BFG... the tech support and lifetime gaurantee ALONE is worth the extra cash (not to mention the garaunteed and warrantied overclock). Either go cheap or go BFG, but I'd stay away from the overpriced 256MB 6600GT.

Would this be a better buy at $196.50? LINK

eVGA GeForce 6800NU

Thank you for your help. But I'm confused here, you say the 6800nu is a better card then the X800GTO. How can that be? almost every benchmark in FPS the 6800nu gets beaten. How is it better?

6800nu- 325Mhz core - 12 pipes - 128mb - 700Mhz (effective) 256 bit DDR

X800GTO- 400Mhz core - 12 pipes - 256mb - 980Mhz (effective) 256 DDR3

Help me understand.

As far as I recall, the 6800NU can be unlocked to 16 pipes, and usually overclocked a bit as well. Someone will have to back me up on that, though.

Well, I know it can be unlocked, but it's not a hundred percent. May have artifacting, or other glitches. Plus you lose 128mb of video RAM from the GT version. So it's not really a GT, but close.

I really hate budgets, I have $400 for a new video card, RAM, PSU and game (HL2). Currently running P4 skt 478 3.0E, 512mb RAM, Radeon 9200 all on a Rosewill 400w PSU (one 12v rail @18A!!!!) :Q

At stock speeds, the X800GTO is faster, but I'd rather have four extra pipes then 128MB of RAM any day of the week since you can do this with a fully unlocked 6800NU. Pipes are more important to horsepower then memory.

As for unlocking, taking any card out of specs is a crap-shoot. From what I know, there is a high success rate with the 6800NU... ergo the praise of this card... also from what I know, I haven't heard any such stories from "lesser" 6800 cards like the LE or XT (though they may exist).

Bottom line, if you're going to buy the card and stick with it at out-of-the-box specs, go with the X800GTO... if you're going to take full advantage of the silicon and are willing to take a slight gamble, go with the 6800NU... they have had a HIGH success rate at unlocking without problems.

To be honest, I avoided this entire price-range of cards... it was all too confusing... I just ponied-up for a 6800GT about a month ago... I'm happy, and I love CoD2 on it. Good luck.
