Read 6 books into WOT.
1 book into Song of Ice and Fire.
So far, Jordan seems much more complicated.
Am I thinking clearly about this?
What is everyone else's impression?
No spoilers please.
Looking forward to the discussion here.

Martin just becomes complicated over time. There are so many damn characters that I can't remember them all. A new book is coming out soon and I'm struggling on whether to go through the series again or just try to catch back up via wiki.

wot was not complicated. just overly fucking drawn out. when it takes 20 pages to describe a women tugging her hair its fucking nuts.

Or the fact that in WoT two characters that haven't seen each other for god knows how long (like 6-7 books worth) have a conversation that goes down like this;

Character 1: Sup man, how you been?
Character 2: Oh you know, same ol' same ol'.
Character 1: You got new shoes
Character 2: Yea, you got a new hat
Character 1: Well, see you later I guess
Character 2: Later.

Seriously?! What the hell Jordan (I know that it is someone else writing it now, but they are going off of Jordan's notes). Also the fact that apparently the most recent 4-5 books only represent about 6 months of worldtime. Just to give you an idea of how drawn out everything is.

G. Martin is a lot more complicated/deep.

The WoT is simply long, really really long.

In any case, neither one is anywhere near as complicated as Steven Erikson. I like his Malazan Book of the Fallen series a lot, but half the time I have no fucking idea what's going on. I doubt he even does himself by the end.

Song of Ice and Fire gets more complicated as the books go on. WoT got bogged down and there are way too many prophecies and visions to keep straight, but these last few have been pretty good about wrapping all of that nonsense up. WoT can get complicated to an extent, there are a bunch of mysteries and a lot that is going on behind the scenes that can be confusing. Ice And Fire is complicated cause 95% of the characters have their own agenda.

WoT is more driven by plot.
SoIaF is driven by the characters.

Both are good. Martin will kill any character at any time for any reason, while Jordan makes all the women overbearing nags who always assume to know better than "wool-headed" men, and are often wrong... but never admit it. God that shit pisses me off.

If all the characters in WOT had sat down together and said everything that they knew then the series could have ended after book 5 or 6.

Otherwise I think WOT is complicated in a good way. Lots of characters and motivations and the world is realistic and complicated as well.
