Which is faster: Ti4600 or 9600 XT?

9800pro is significantly better

8 pipes vs 4 for the others
256bit memory bus vs 128bit for the others

this card hammers the 2 you mentioned the 4 extra pipes mean massive fill rates :)

but out of the 9600XT and 4600 i would say in DX8.1 at medium resolutions ie 1024x768, the 4600 will probably be faster....but in DX9 and when you enable anti aliasing and Anisotropic filtering the 9600XT will be king

either way 9800pro rules

I would agree that the 9800PRO will wipe the floor with the 9600XT and TI4600.

I disagree that the 9600XT is slower than the TI4600 at DX8.1. I would say they perform about the same up till 10x7, once above that or with AA/AF enabled then the 9600XT will be considerable faster.

Hmm... if only we had some benchmarks. Boy, it would be nice if some sites would test these things out for us. :p

They seem pretty well-matched at DX8 games without AA/AF (4600 is faster in some OGL stuff, 9600XT faster in some DX8 stuff), but the 9600XT handles the IQ features *much* better.

And I would say,... the Ti4600 would be faster esp. in DX8 and no AA/AF. I base this on my old Ti4400 with a 10% OC and my new 9600XT OC'd at 576 core and 666 mem. I wish I would have kept the 4400,.... but I imagine once I have/use more DX9 with AA/AF enabled the better the 9600XT will be. Then again I saw a 9800XT for $212 so I think it will not be long before I go that route.

The Ti4600 will be faster in straight trilinear rendering but when you crank up AF and/or AA the 9600 XT will pull away. Of course the 9800 Pro absolutely blows aways both of them.

Where did you see a 9800XT (not pro) for 212.00?

4600 should be about even with a 9600XT in plain rendering, but the latter will be faster with AA+AF and offers decent DX9 speed. No point in getting a 4600, IMO. I'd pay the extra $60 for a 9800P, though.

The 9800 Pro (IIRC) is currently on sale at CompUSA for $200 (or is it the XT? can't remember)
