Mobile Pentium 4 2.0 or 2.2 vs. Mobile Celeron 1.5 GHz

the P4 is obviously faster, but how much so?

Is the Celeron 1.5 based on the P3 or the P4?

The reason I ask is because I'm looking for a new laptop and want something powerful, but not something so powerful I'll need to take out a mortgage to buy - and the P4s take the cake in that department.

My Inspiron 8100 w/ a P3 1.2 GHz CPU is really sweet, but my dad was thinking about getting a laptop and wanted to take mine. I could then buy a new one.

Teh Inspiron 2650C looks like a great deal! Celeron 1.5 w/ decent RAM.

I'm going to be using it for word processing, spreadsheets, multimedia (DVDs, playing movies, MP3s), heavy heavy internet usage, occaisonal gaming (circa 1999-2000 stuff, my favs), CAD (AutoCAD, Electrical Engineering SPICE-based simulations, etc)

I have another more powerful system for disc burning, and for playing the latest games.

clock for clock the tualatin core P3's stomp the P4 but once the P4 gets over 1.8ghz or so they start to become better
last i checked the P3 completely stopped at 1.4ghz
i didn't know they were making 1.5ghz P4, or P3, based celerons for laptops
i would stay away from whatever it is
if it is based off their new P4 celerons with 128kb cache it would prob perform about as good as a 1ghz P3 or less
I am currently running a 1.8ghz P4 laptop (radeon 7500 graphics 256mb ddr 4200rpm hard drive) and am happy with it
plus you get ddr memory and all the latest stuff with the P4 laptops
if yur gonna play games on it try for radeon 9000 graphics, if you can, that's the latest and the best right now
also get 512mb of mem, it'll be worth it
and a 5400rpm hard drive if yur looking for a desktop replacement, or want the fastest
get a good display too
that'll pretty much be a top of the line system
to cut money just decide what you want the most out of yur system (ie: gaming) and skimp on what you don't want
I got my laptop from http://powernotebooks.com

have fun

ohh yeah the difference between 2.0 and 2.2 might not be justified by the price jump (really up to you if it's worth having top of the line) you usually pay a premium for the top of the line stuff
also make sure you don't get a desktop P4 if you do get a P4 laptop (look for the word P4m not just P4)
some venders like to put a desktop P4 in their systems because they are cheaper and clocked faster, but they won't have speed step technology and will use more power

I was just going to get a Dell.

So a P4 2Ghz or 2.2 GHz (yes its mobile, dell wouldn't lie to its customers) w/ 512MB DDR and ATI Radeon 9000 would be preferred over a Celeron 1.5 GHz (yes its based on P4 - I just found out) with 256MB DDR and Geforce2 2 Go??

So the $600 price difference is worth it?

Thanks

if your already spending around 2000 then yes
i wouldn't be caught dead with a celeron P4
and the radeon 9000 will stomp a geforce2 go
the radeon 7500 is better than the geforce2 go
