Which is faster 4 MB or 384K?

DSL line not shared. However total bandwith to CO is shared, just as the whole internet is shared...

Why are you guys so dense? He OBVIOUSLY means 4mbps and 384kbps. Have you ever heard of 4megabyte/sec broadband?

4mbps is faster. There are 1024kbps in 1mbps. 4mbps is therefore 10.67x as fast as 384kbps.

Well the question now becomes, are the download differences noticable? The cost differences are about 10-15 dollars and I'm not sure if the extra cost would be worth it if there isn't much noticable difference in d/l and u/l between the two services.

Use: just plain internet. emails.

It will absolutely be noticeable, especially on big downloads - If you're on the Internet for more than an hour or so per day and do anything more than generic web surfing the higher speed is way worth it.

It may not be noticeable for email unless you get big attachments, but it will be when the time comes to download updates etc.
