oem = 90 day warranty/No heatsink/fan

retail = 3year warranty with heatsink/fan

I would get the oem version and buy yourself the best hsf u can afford ;)

If you think the 3yr warranty will make you feel safer...then get retail. Otherwise, OEM. (There's absolutely no difference)

Oh wait...get retail if you want a cool AMD box :D

just $15 difference, of course go retail even you don't use that hsf.
you get a protection box for shipping by mail if you want to sell it or give it to someone later.

oem has no warranty at all,
if you burn or damage the cpu,
do you think the seller will warrant it anyway?

however, with AE Blue purchase protection, it seems to be worry-free now for buying oem cpu,
just let AE eats it in case.

if you don't overclock, get retail, $15 aftermarket hsf may not be good as the retail one.

1.) retail=warranty, afraid of damaging proc. and don't oc
2.) oem=guts, glory and madness in installing and oc:)

I choose 2 he.. he:D

How can a retail cpu be easier to install than oem cpu?

the retail hsf is even harder to install than aftermarket one.

Well, not actually coz it depends on wht HSF u r using. Some of the aftermrkt HSF is a pain in the neck.

I was having the same question.
I got the retail because I didn't plan on overclocking and wanted minimum noise.

Seems the retail h/s and fan is not quite up to par.
I'm having to spend extra on an SK-6,fan and ASII.

But it was like only $18.00 difference in price when I got mine.

If I had to do it again, I'd get an oem and the nicest h/s,fan combo out.

I agree there is no difference in quality between retail and OEM.

You get a Box, Case Sticker and HS/Fan...and 3 yr warranty
All for $15 bucks. (not a bad deal)

Personally I don't keep my CPUs long enough to
take advantage of warranty :)

But, if you are OC'g .. I doubt you will use the HS/Fan...

I'd go OEM and use the extra bucks for your cooling setup..

if you are going to overclock, then oem is the only way to go. if you are absolutely sure that you are not, then retail may be the better option. i know that if i ever got a 1.4 ghz athlon, i wouldn't be able to let it go without overclocking. but thats just me. :D
