Sorry. You are tapping the wrong meter(s).
Which meter *should* I be tapping then?
OK, let me 'splain it, Lucy. I posted a ridiculous comment and I wanted to see how many members (109,998 registered) of AT I could get to fall for it.
Wow. Just wow. I'll make sure to post *SARCASM* every time I post something sarcastic directed towards you in the future.

edit: Unless that last Lucy post was also sarcastic? It's getting hard to read if any of your posts are actually sarcastic.

They should have a sarcasm meter icon. Animated of course.

So it looks like an ammeter on an across the line 6.6 kV starter when the motor is still and the start button is pushed. Needle slammed to the far right with so much force it bounces furiously at the peg like a $2whore that got a $400 annual prepayment.

I thought that my post was pretty obvious sarcasm, and if that didn't work I thought that alluding to oldsmoboat's sarcasm meter would do the trick.

BTW, nobody uses analog ammeters anymore, maybe it should look like a network analyzer or something. :p

It's not so much the medium as the recording/mastering process, for me. Digital has a higher signal-to-noise ratio so the temptation is to push all the levels to their limits. Everything sounds cleaner but it sounds tiring to the ears after a while. Too 'in-your-face' and not enough ambience.

There are still digital recordings that are peak limited that sound amazingly warm (Radiohead's OK Computer is my prime example) but most pop/hard rock/hip-hop nowadays sounds too sterile.

Digital is cleaner but the staging can be broader and more pronounced with excellent vinyl recordings, imo. (ie classical concerts etc.)

Yeah, that's the real problem with Analog is that it is so incredibly susceptable to noise from the equipment. Digital's main draw is that vastly lower quality componants still sound good because digital cares much less about transmission noise so there's not need to use very expensive, low-noise components in digital equipment during playback (obviously, those components are still necessary in mastering).

In a purely theoretical setup, analog wins without any contest. In practice, there is so much intrusion from outside noise that digital is vastly superior in regards to the ability to reproduce exactly what is on the media.

I have no doubt that vinyl can sound good for some things at least, but I don't have the time, money, or space for that kind of setup. Most of my music listening is done at the computer, from ripped CD music played from the hard drive (preferrably losslessly compressed with FLAC or APE).

If you want to tell me that you prefer your vinyl to CD, that's fine, but if you then proceed to tell me that your $2000 speaker cables, $1200 power cables, $500 "audio pebbles," and $3000 wooden knobs contribute to that "good sound," then you're just some stupid nutjob that is "hearing things."

You Vinyl voters are elitest morons. CDs are infinitely better than vinyl.

I'm not a huge fan of live music. heh. depends on the band, of course, but many sound better in the studio than in-person.

Gotta take care of vinyl!

Bwahahahahahaha!

This reminds me of those days of leaving Ed Ames' Erie Canal 45 out in the sun on the Califone record player!

Holy Warpage Captain!

Many nights I remember waking up hearing the sound of the needle clicking furiously at the end of the record. We'd fall asleep listening to an LP with a manual turntable...

cd has higher quality sound recording, people are only nastalgic about vinyl becuase that's when music was still good, most of the modern music isn't something you can really get into for long term enjoyment.
