as it says in the title really - have the potential options of either a mobile 2500+ barton [unlocked and known to be able to hit 2.5GHz] or a Barton 2800+ [non-mobile and not been overclocked by the owner].
price is similar for both
which is considered the better buy?

i want to upgrade by Nforce2 system [A7N8X-D v2] from the 2100+ overclocked to 2400+ that i currently have

mobiles are unlocked. 2800+ may or may not be, depending on when it was made. go for the sure 2.5Ghz, that's about as good as you're going to get in socket A

Make sure your mobo offers CPU multiplier adjustments for use with the mobile CPU.

i have the Asus A7N8X-deluxe rev 2.0
I had assumed this does allow multi adjustment for the mobile - can anyone confirm or deny?

I'm pretty sure it does. I didn't get that the "D" stood for "Deluxe". I was afraid it was some variant of the A7N8X. Like with abit the NF7-S v2 has multi adjustments while teh NF7-S2 does not.

Neither. The mobile barton 2500+ is rarely consistent, and the barton 2800+ is, well, just a plain barton. You're going to want the 45w mobile 2600+, or the 35w mobile 2400+ bartons.
