Which is better? Kapersky Internet Security or Norton Internet Security

So like the title, I'd like to know which Internet Security is better, Norton or Kapersky. I've read numerous reports that Kapersky has a high detection rate. I browsed through the forum for a couple of pages, and it seems to me that Kapersky is more popular than Norton.

If the both of them are almost the same, then I might just stick with my Norton.

Thanks.

I will bet this is not the popular answer but if it is Norton 2007 or newer I would use it over Kaspersky. For me and I am running both on different computers Norton has been less trouble and causes no slow downs, wher if you look around there seem to still be problems with Kaspersky and some site including Anandtech. And whichever you use, you can also beef up your security by using the features of the operating system, as well as common sense and a little applied knowledge: http://www.mechbgon.com/build/security2.html Don't underestimate the power of The Force (aka a non-Admin user account). :D

After avoiding it for a long time, I switched from Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite for Vista (which is pretty buggy and bogs things down a bit) to Norton Internet Security 2008 and have been very happy. It's completely unobtrusive, everything works flawlessly, and no slowdown at all. I was shocked. It's like they're a different company than four or five years ago when I switched to Zone Alarm. Never tried Kaspersky (although ZAISS used the last generation Kaspersky engine, I think).

My hardware is similar to MadAmos', so maybe it works better on recent, fast machines.

AntiVirus Detection Rate Thread (Kaspersky wins here, plus Kaspersky updates their definitions about every hour, fastest new threat response time in the industry)

Minority of users experiencing strange slowdown when browsing the web when the email protection is enabled:confused:

Norton 360 Discussion, I prefer it over Norton Internet Security

Norton 360 and Kaspersky Internet Security are both FREE after MiR

Try Norton 360 free for 15 days

Try Kaspersky Internet Security free for 30-days

Try both (not at the sametime) and make your decision based on the trials and the linked information above.

Hmm. I tried Norton 360 before, but I went back to Norton Internet Security because of the layout. Maybe I'll give Norton 360 another try. Currently, my friend is trying Kaspersky Internet Security right now. I think Kaspersky is doing pretty good for him so far, but it's only been a few days into the trial. At least he got rid of One Care.

I'll give both of them a try Schadenfroh. Thanks for the info. But so far, judging from some light article reading and some forum search, Kaspersky's better than Norton Internet Security.

Now if only we had these free after MIR offers in Canada...

Well so far, my friend says Kaspersky is pretty sick. He says that it has more configuration options than norton. I think I'll give Kaspersky a try. I don't like this Norton provided by Rogers.

If you use Kaspersky, then there are some settings you can enable in the Antivirus to get improved detection (they weren't enabled by default on my KAV).

1) riskware detection in the Threats & Exclusions section of Settings

2) the Heuristics option on several of the protection modules (email, Web, and File Anti-virus), which you access by selecting the module, then clicking the Customize button and checkmarking the Heuristic Analyzer box.

3) I think it's best to set the "Action" for the various modules to automatically deal with threats, instead of prompting for action... shoot first, ask questions later. Stuff can be pulled out of the Quarantine even if it's been deleted, so it's not irreversible.

Don't know Kasperski, had problems with CA Internet Security and ZA Security.

Never a problem with Norton AV since 2004, totally impressed with Norton Internet Security 2007, just renewed the 2007 for another year.

Norton updates run every 4 hours, more than sufficient frequency IMO.

2008 (practically the same as 2007) can be had for free After Rebates at Staples this week:

Trust me when I say comments here at Anandtech directly affected that. Size and performance are back to being two of the primary metrics the team has to design to. 2007 showed the first real improvments, 2008 is better, 2009 will be better still.

I've used Kaspersky Internet Security for almost 2 months and I love it. It's way better than the Norton software that Rogers offers, but you can't complain that much since it's free.

Anyways, my friend was asking me today and whether NOD32 or Kaspersky was better? Also, if I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security, do I need to run Kaspersky Anti-Virus as well? Since on the Kaspersky website it said, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 is intended for users who already have antispam and anti-hacker protection (such as Kaspersky Internet Security) installed on their computers."

Thanks.

NOD32 has better heuristics. Kaspersky has better detection rates, hourly updates, better support, and is often heavily discounted.

The Internet Security includes the Anti-Virus.
