Which is better Intel i3 380m or AMD Athlon II P360

Both will perform the tasks she's looking for without any trouble. Though both of those Toshibas seem pretty think, and a bit heavy for their size? I think you can do better for a ~500 price point given her needs.

I3 is better - more cache among other things. Newegg I3 model with better specs is better deal overall for the price. A lot more bang for your buck for $22 more.

She is upgrading from an old Dell 600m 14" that lasted 7-8 years. It was 5.5lbs so the Toshiba will be lighter by a half pound.

Battery life is important to her so I think the i3 is a better choice right?

Yep, if you are getting one with better battery life, i3 is the way to go at the moment.

Ordered the i3 Toshiba from Newegg. Just came yesterday. Seems pretty good so far. Battery life appears to be around 3-4 hrs. Haven't had time to test fully yet.

Just had to spend some time doing the usual prep on a brand name computer. Removing Norton and Toshiba preinstalled software, updating windows, imaging, installing all of her programs and restoring data from old computer.

My aunt was used to a smooth touchpad. This one has a 'rough sandpaper' like touchpad. That's the only thing she doesn't like so far. Wish I had more experience with notebooks. I have a Macbook and it has the nice smooth touchpad. I didn't know they made notebooks with rough touchpads 🙁

I noticed that the black keyboard attracts finger smudges easily.
4 hrs battery life on average depending on what applications you're running and the screen brightness. Overall a good notebook.
