Which is better? Generic 512MB PC133 SDRAM for 65 dollars or Kingmax 256MB PC150 SDRAM for 42 dollars?

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you're doing lots of large photo work, or video editing, than more memory is better. If you want to push your Front Side Bus as high as you can, then go with the PC150.

I'd go for brand name.
Brand name doesn't cost much more now.
Brand name uses known top tier manufacturer chips mostly.
Generic uses unknown manufacturer chips mostly, and the spd may not be written properly.

I guess you mean Kingmax pc150. If you don't overclock, you don't need to buy pc150.
Is above price before shipping?
If yes, let me tell you some better buys:
Crucial pc133 cl2 256M $39.09 or pc133 cl3 512M $93.49 + 5.5 flat rate shipping.
Viking pc133 cl3 256M (infineon chips) $39.99 + sh - coupon at Amazon.

When dell had 20% off few days ago, you could get Kingston valueram pc133 cl3 ecc 512M for $78+sh. - that's even better deal.
When the $30 off 100 was still active, you could get that plus another 256M for $78+28-100+sh. - that's crazy deal.

256M is fine for normal use,
if you use photoshop, more is always better.

I'd never buy Generic, only big namers like Corsair, Crucial, or Kingston. But in the PC150 Vs PC133, PC150 is guarranteed to run at 150MHz (Which will happen when ocing the fsb to 150MHz), and often higher still, but good PC133 RAM (ding ding, Crucial) will often hit 150MHz on it's own so.

Huh, interesting; I will almost always buy "generic" when I'm at computer shows, but I always want to see the chips themselves first. That way, I can see the ns rating and the manufacturer of the chips. I haven't had any trouble with the stuff, especially NEC memory.

Oh, and keep an eye out; someone awhile back was selling some PC166 memory, so that option does exist too.
