err, they are black edition of course i will OC. but then again for gaming purpose only.
OC on air, and not that much. will probably get an arctic cooling freezer 64 pro.

keep in mind the X2 5400 is 50$ cheaper or so. but i wanna know which one is faster for games in general.

If you are looking at the X2 5400 consider either the X2 5600 or X2 6000 for the higher memory divisor.

In certain instances (i.e., multithreading) the X3 would perform above the dual cores.

What about an X2 7750 ??

I'd say the X2 7750.

The higher memory divisor on the X2 5600 or X2 6000 would allow your DDR2 800 to run at spec at 3.2 GHz. With the X2 5400 your RAMS will be running 760MHz (and you would have to drop the memory ratio to 333MHz) at 3.2GHz.

Now that I've said all that - go for the X2 7750 (and you might be able to run DDR2 1066MHz - I need to check on that ...)

edit: The memory controller runs at 1066MHz ...

hmmm, not sure what to do now since you've answered my question with an answer not included in my choices.
One thing i look at is power consumption. the 7750 TDP is 95W and the 5400 is 65W (brisbane).
Plus the 7750 is ~35$ more than the 5400+.
is the 35$ plus electricity bill worth it ?

I would go with the 7750 or 8750... unless, you went for the Brisbane and then dropped in a Phenom II in a few months, when prices are good.

The increase in the electric bill will be negligible, just a couple bucks a year.

The 8750 is - hands down - going to be faster (especially if you compare both at stock speeds), and once you overclock its performance advantage will just increase. The Phenoms are just more efficient per clock than the Athlon X2s, so even games that aren't more-than-dual-threaded would run faster.

The X2 7750 is the 'first shot' 65nm K10 Kuma (most likely a B3 Phenom with 2 disabled cores)

And it costs $75 - roughly $9 more than the X2 5400+ from the Egg

Yes, the 7750 would be a good alternative too. Its attractive price brings in the debate on the future of multi-core gaming. For games like UT3 and GTAIV, the 8750 would be the better chip. For most other games, the 7750 would be faster. My point was that since the Phenom 8750 and Core 2 Duo E7300 are the same price, and their stock performance is similar for most games, then it's almost a no-brainer to grab the chip with the extra core for the few games that would currently take advantage of it and for the future games that will as well.

i guess i will just wait a few more months and see what amd releases. maybe with the new phenom II arrival, the phenom 9950 will drop in price....

Bro dont waist your hard earned money on that crap plain and simple!!
If you want something new and have to go amd then get a x2 7750BE or a x4 920 or 940!!
The cpu's mentioned above by you are just to outdated already.
Please take my word for it you'll thank me in the end!!
