Which is better (for gaming): 9600XT or 9500NP softmoded to 9700?

I have a 9500 non-pro which can be sucessfully softmoded to 9700. I also have a 9600XT (both are 128MB RAM). I co-worker asked me to build an "average" gaming system for his son. Which would be a better card for him?
 
The better of the two cards is easily the soft-modded 9500. It outperforms a 9600XT in every way. Now whether you want to give it up to your co-worker's son is another matter. Either one will perform well as a gaming card.

Personally, I'd keep the 9500NP for myself and use the 9600XT for the boy.
