Which is better for CS/HL Gaming? Radeon LE or GF2 MX?

Well having used nothing but nVidia cards since way back in mid 1998 until a couple of months ago I am now considering the purchase of an alternative card.

So far I have been very pleased with the nVidia cards and have no complaints whatsoever but the hacking of the LE appeals to my "something for nothing" mentality.

HOWEVER!

I normally only play CS or Half-Life based games so I'm really only interested in the difference in performance for those type of games.

My last card was a GF2 MX which gave up to 100fps (with fps_max 100 command) on CS so naturally this frame rate cannot be improved upon - however frame rates could dip down to a low of say 70"ish" FPS during more hectic shootouts.
This is by no means slow and considering the screen resolution was at the maximum it is pretty excellent for a "budget" card.

So for the "pro" LE guys/girls - what sort of frame rates are you getting and should I make the change to Ati?

Currently using a Dell latitude laptop with an Ati card and I'm sure a 3D game would kill it..lol

I agree.. the LE is beautiful in CS. Crank it up to 1280*960*32 with anisotropic filtering :)

I've been looking to buy an LE and the research I've done shows that the Radeon LE is on par with the Geforce 256 DDR. Not bad company.

OK it may be "beautiful" but we all know (or should know) that beauty is in the eye of the beholder too! ;)

What sort of frame rates are you getting though???

Hell my buddy said Half-Life was "so realistic" on his PII 400 with ATi rage card - went round to look at it and he was playing at 300 x something in software mode....lol... :D

I'm more than likely to get the LE anyway but I want to know what sort of difference to expect :)

Actually, as long as it is a Rage 128 based card or upward, Half-Life performs quite acceptably. The Rage Fury MAXX (dual Rage 128 Pro) is very smooth at half-life deathmatch and hence, handles counter-strike quite easily.
The Radeon pretty much follows the same pattern and is quite good. I would say it is marginally faster than the MX.

EDIT: Cant give an FPS score. Computer I tested with a Radeon had FPS_MAX set to 72.
