can someone also explain the difference between compression of the two, if any, and also other stuff that differ between them.

they're different encoding schemes. DTS (and DTS ES, the 6.1 version of DTS Sound) is better but requires much higher bitrates than Dolby Digital (or Dolby Digital Ex)

All DVDs must have a Dolby Digital soundtrack. Due to space constraints, few DVDs also incorporate DTS sound. I'm sure if you hit up google you can find much more info :)

DD EX is 6.1 not 5.1, it adds a rear center channel

However if I have a choice I perfer DTS, over DD.

Altantic Technologies 370 THX Ultra certified 5.1 system :D

Are you sure RaynorWolfcastle? What about DVD's w/ Pro Logic as the only audio option?

basically, will Terminator 2 Extreme Edition be better than the Ultimate Edition in both video AND audio technical features or just the video portion?

My bad, you can have PCM (2-channel) encoding instead. Link

For obvious reason, almost all movies have at least one Dolby Digital soundtrack. (PCM = .wav sound IIRC, so it takes up a buttload of space)
