not a hradore gamer, so i can't tell much of a difference, but running 3D Mark 2000 (not 2001) i did see a slight benchmark increase when i went from DX7 to DX8...

Supradude,

Your statement caught my eye. I loaded DX8 yesterday, and now 3DMark2000 (the old one) won't run. I get a "required .dll file moved or missing" error message. Everything else (games, apps, email, surfing) runs fine. Weird, huh?

marks-wise it was a few hundred at best, i don't recall the exact numbers, an increase of ~< 300... but since there are no problems associated with DX8, why not switch? he he

MichaelD: that is weird, but do you have 3D mArk 2000 1.0? or 1.1v? if your on 1.0 that might be the problem... but since 2001 is out now, might as well go to the new soon-to-be standard :)

Under Win2k the difference between dx7 & dx8 is night & day. DX7 for Win2k was severely broken.

Many card(s)-drivers do not support DirectX 8 or 8a, it is better to wait a little
so updated drivers can be tested and brought out by the manufacturers. Small tip
never use the first release of DirectX 8.X supported drivers, this often gives software malfunction or blue screens like hell. In about 2 months stable drivers should be available.

I just checked out your rig, dang!, with a 1 gig processor and a geforce MX you should have no problems gaming or benching, however, word on the 2001 bench scores thread is that the 10.80's detonators are scoring better, personally, i'm using the 7.56's... both of these drivers are faster than the 6.xx's...

I have no choice but to install DX8? why? because Mechwarrior 4 REQUIRES DX8. and I don't have any problems with it.

Yeah, me also, had no problems ever with the DX8. It is more stable, and every day there'll be new games that take advantage / require DX8 properties. So why not install? I've played a lots of games and run a lots of benchmarks, and never had a problem. Besides, if problems occur, you can acquire an uninstaller for example here.

I just installed DX8 today... I also updated to the 10.80 drivers for my geforce2. Got a 200 3dmark2001 increase b/c of the video driver. seems pretty stable. no probs yet.
