I want to run a big software like PeopleSoft or Oracle Applications on a laptop for practising purposes. Dell Inspiron 8600 will do? Or I have to get Precision M60? I don't need gaming capabilities, but Precision costs a lot more than Inspiron. Any suggestions??

for what you said a 8600 with a lot of memory will be fine , unless you need a quadro graphics card for the extra bit of performance in 3d modeling , the M60 will be a waste for you.

Thank you very much. What about Latitude D800? Does it have any advantage over Inspiron 8600? Or do you advise Inspiron 8600?

besides the M60 precision series, the Latitude series usually has less powerful video card options than the Inspirons. The Latitudes are supposed to have better build quality, but a dell is a dell is a dell. :)
IF you don't need a gaming video card and the latitude options work well for you then go latitude.
If you need a more powerful video card then go for the Inspiron 8600.

Thanks you guys, I am going to buy a Latitude. Dell has offered the usual 15% off email-exclusive. Can we expect some more discounts before Christmas or this week-end is going to be the last for any discount offers?

I would recomend the Inspiron 8600, if you need graphics power it now comes with the new ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (64MB and 128MB) M10 video card. That combined with memory will give you a powerhouse notebook

I just ordered an Inspiron 8600 with the following specs:
-P-M 1.7GHz
-7200RPM 60GB HDD
-128MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo
-Bluetooth
-802.11a/b/g
-256MB RAM (Soon To Be 1GB RAM)
-15.4" WUXGA (1920x1200)
-WinXP Home

I will get the 1GB RAM from Crucial, instead, because they charge about $260.00 for it, while Dell charges $550.00.

I got 9777 in 3DMark2001SE and 2769 in 3DMark2003. This was without any tweaks and with the out of the box settings using Windows XP Home. I will do a clean install of Windows XP Professional and update all the drivers to see what happens.

Hope this helps you.
