Which is better deal? Need help.

I'm stuck. I've got my eye on 2 newegg combo deals. Both involve the Biostar TForce TA790GX motherboard. One combo has the 9600 Agena and the combo price is $169.98, 40 bucks off the price if bought separately.

combo # 1

The next deal is for the Kuma 7750 with a combo price of $152.99, 25 bucks off.

combo # 2

I know the Kuma is a better core, and I planned on going to the PH II when the prices come down more. Would it be worth it trying to get the agena with 4 cores and upgrade later? Or are the improvements in the Kuma (including OC ability, which I plan to do) enough to go with the dual core?

I'm leaning toward the Kuma, but I wanted to get some advice from you fellas. I try to spend my money wisely in the bang-for-the-buck arena.

From what I've heard the old B2 stepping Phenoms were terrible overclockers. So unless you need quad threading right now I would personally go with the 7750. I doubt you'll even get the 9600 up to 2.7Ghz, and you should be able to reach 3.2-3.4 with the 7750. Although 7750's are really luck of the draw, mine requires 1.5V to run stable at 3.2, I just run it at 3.0 with 1.36V. I've talked to other people claiming to reach 3.2 with under 1.4V.

Thank you.

I was leaning that way, but I like to get 2nd opinions. 7750 it is. I'm ordering tomorrow. Finally getting away from my old s939 3000+ single core (so embarassing) 😱

If you're planning to upgrade to PhII don't wait, just spend the extra $80 today and get it.

Otherwise you have to try to sell off your "extra" cpu before you buy the new one.

if that's true, and i would expect something of the sort since i've read similar things in several places, it'd probably just be worthwhile to wait a tad longer.

OP: if i were you i'd try to hold out until the am3 phenom ii's come out. if nothing else it should knock the prices down on the current ones.
