WHich is better deal ? Geforce 2 Ti or g4 mx 440??

Hi all I have been away for a while and havent been up on video cards much lately either.
Future shop had a sale on the Visiontek geforce 2 ti card with 64 megs of ddr ram and tv out for $129.99 after rebate. But then I was at a local shop and saw the Geforce 4 mx 440's are only $200.00 plus tax for the msi model 8861 with tv out.The guy there says the msi is a nice card and he likes their products. He can get other brands as well.
what are your thoughts? is there a bif difference in performance?
Is the g4 worth the extra $75.00 ?
It will be going in a 900 mhz or 1 gig system.
thanks for any info.

The GF4 MX is actually a GF2 on drugs. With it you do not get any of the advancements in a normal GF4, or even any of those in the GF3. My best guess would be to try and find a GF3 (Ti if you can) for about the price of the GF4 MX (i really hate calling such a rubbish card a GF4!), it should be much better.

I think the thing here with nVidia is to avoid the MX line all together!

Alternatively to the GF line, look at the ATI Radeon 8500, they are also nice cards, about on a par with a GF4 (not the MX!) 🙂

I am by no means an expert (or anywhere near)...i still have a GF2 MX! But this seems to be about the information I have seen here before 🙂

Confused

Does are rather high prices you have to pay.
If you check online, a Geforce 4 MX 440 with TV-Out runs for about $80 + s/h
A Geforce 2 Ti would be around $60ish + s/h
Also, a Geforce 4 MX 440 is more powerful than the Geforce 2 Ti for two reasons.
1: The geforce 4 mx uses the same bandwidth saving engine as from the Geforce 4 Ti's. This makes it use bandwidth much much more efficent.
2: Although not really a plus, but the MX should have better 2D and a higher core clock.
However, if you can't purchase online, than I suggest you pick the cheapest since you processor will make you see really not much performance between the two cards.

I clicked on this thinking you found them both for the same price and was about to recommend the gf4 mx440, because it is better than a gf2, just not $75 better. I don't know why those prices are so high but even in retail stores you can find better deals than that in the US. You can do MUCH better for $200 than a gf4 mx440.

Blurry, don't forget the G4 MX-440 has two rendering pipelines disabled, the Geforce 2 Ti still uses four. When both of these cards are overclocked to the max, they are very close to equal, get the cheapest one.

Hmm, I would buy a RADEON 8500 LE, but
if you are on tight budget, the GF 4 MX 440 is faster than the GF 2 TI and even the GF2 Ultra
not that much faster, but faster...
according to this article : linky
also there is another good place to do some research another one.
My advice is do not trust this forum that much because there are alway people
like
Barrei, who are interpreting the numbers backwards

<< Of the 2 the gefoerce2Ti is a better card by far. >>

Why? I dont know
and that is why I am advising you to do research with the links I have provided above...

Edit: DO not spend that kind of money on GF 4 MX,or GF 2 TI, just go online and get one for a deacent price like over at
www.newegg.com. If you do not have a choice get the one for $129.00 because there is no way it is cost effective to buy a GF 4 MX for $200.00 ( if it is in US dollars the store IS STEALING, do not buy from them, GF 4 MX can be easly find for less than $95.00 shipped)

Edit: you should use this site

FYI, the original post did not mention, but those are Canadian prices. Multiply by .64 to get a USD equivalent. Even then they might seem a bit high, but we northerners do not have the benefit of vicious online competition to drive down prices. With shipping to Canada and possible duties at the border, it's not worth buying from US online retailers most of the time.

Boo hoo.

adlep, this is true that some people interpret the numbers wrong, but then some of the benchmarks are misleading. For instance a quick look at the links you provided showed the cards compared at stock speeds which can be very innaccurate. For example my video card is a Gainward Geforce 2 Ti 500, which comes stock at 250/400. Compare this to a Geforce Ultra at the stock speed of 250/460 and my card looks much slower. However overclock both of them to their potential and they are close to equal. My card runs 290/520 which puts it in a whole different league. I was looking desperately for the sites where I saw the Geforce MX 440 overclocked against an overclocked Ultra and G2 Ti. When overclocked the Ultra and G2 Ti crushed the Geforce 4 MX 440, but when they overclocked the MX 440 it was a very close contest. Interestingly enough, all three of the cards at max overclock were slightly ahead of a Geforce 3 Ti 200 at stock speeds. But then again this is misleading, because the Geforce 3 Ti 200 overclocks very well and at higher speeds soundly whips any Geforce 2 or Geforce 4 MX card.

I see you are a fellow Canuck... I saw the Future shop deal also.
It's okay if that's your only choice.

Check out some of the local computer stores. I have seen some carrying OEM versions of the Geforce 2 Ti for ~ $110 Can (64 meg DDR MSI oem with S-video out) and Geforce 3 Ti 200's for $200 Can (OEM).

You can also get ATI 7500's for about $150 Can (OEM)

I guess it depends where you are (these were in TO, College St. area)

<< Blurry, don't forget the G4 MX-440 has two rendering pipelines disabled, the Geforce 2 Ti still uses four >>

True, however the Geforce 2 TI is too bandwidth limited to fully take use of the four rendering pipelines. However, I am not encouraging WeekendWarrior to purchase the Geforce 4 MX 440. I was just making a comparision of the two cards.
