the crossbow is better because you get more range..also, it is hard to kill someone with a bowflex

I've used both, and own a Crossbow Platinum. While the Boxflex feels a little more solid (craftsmanship, durabilty, etc), the Crossbow has several advantages over it. For me it was a no-brainer as to which one to get. The Crossbow:

- costs way less
- has a huge edge in range of motion (might not seem like a big deal, but you'll soon realize otherwise)
- can change weights in a fraction of a time (great for cardio-circuit training - you want to get into your next set quickly)
- looks better, IMO
- counts reps for you, which I really like because keeping track of them in my head rather annoys me. This way I can better concentrate on my form during the reps.

I'd definitely go with the Crossbow. Especially the new Crossbow Platinum or whatever that has the digital resistance things wher eyou just use the keypad to put in how much weight you want.

The extra range of motion and the much cheaper price make it a no brainer for me.

But of course I'm too lazy to even use my free gym membership....

Go with neither and spend less money on a gym membership.. they have real equipment at gyms.. and you can lust after the hot girls/guys.

^^^ I agree with the hot girl viewing thing, but damn... walking 7 feet over to your Crossbow for your workout sure beats an hour's drive every day.

if they cost the same you would still get crossbow?

also why is it always said free weights are better? what exactly? range? different resistance?

if you're doing the exact same exercise does it matter?

i was looking into getting a platinum crossbow but held off after hearing some bad things. Various people have said that the platinum crossbow is not very reliable and they have poor customer service. the electronic counter is flaky and some units won't work right out of the box and needed to be replaced.

I would say that if money is no object, the Bowflex takes it hands down. Most people will tell you to bag either choice and stick with free weights, but the bow type machines have advantages too. I bought the Crossbow and it was a nobrainer for me because of the price. Check here:

I have not received it so I can not comment on it yet. I am not looking at becoming huge, I am just getting older and want to get in better shape. I think that this machine will fit the bill and it will make a nice towel rack when I give up on fitness and go back to cheesburgers and beer.
