Which is better - CAS2 or CAS3 memory?

Looking to upgrade to some new memory. Still running a PC133 board but I need to know which is better - CAS2 or CAS3 memory?

Also like to know who has best memory - Mushkin, Crucial, Micron...?

Thanks

Cas2 is better than Cas3 memory--and that's why it's a tad more expensive.

It refers to the number of latency cycles before the memory can be addressed, IIRC. As to the benefits... well... small, but there ARE performance gains. Anandtech did a roundup on this... search for "PC 133 Memory Roundup" or something similar.

Mushkin has the best quality RAM, but you're gonna pay thru the nose for it.

Crucial is a division of Micron.

I would go with Crucial if I were buying today. They have good prices... very good quality RAM... and free 2-day shipping. Hard to beat.

Another vote for Crucial. Their web site is really nice too. They've got that thing that tells you exactly what RAM will go in your mobo.

Go with the cheap stuff. ECC or buffered memory will decrease performance. It's primarly for error detection (ECC stands for Error Checking and Correcting) and you don't need that unless this is a mission-critical server.
