Which is better, 132FSB 3:4 timings or 133FSB 1:1 timings?

Trying to play around with the DDR and FSB settings on my P4 1.6A Northwood rig... Seems like the system is faster and more stable at 132 FSB with 3:4 timings, than 133 with 1:1. What's the deal with the 3:4 timings? Do they offer an advantage, either with speed or stability? Would appreciate your feedback on this question. Thanks.

With the 3:4 setting, you are running the FSB at 132MHz and the RAM at 166MHz.

The Pentium 4 always performs better the more RAM bandwidth you give it.

Andy,
Thanx for the response! That helps a lot. I did notice quite an improvement when I switched from 133/1:1 to 132 / 3:4... But just wasn't sure why. So, I guess that means that my Crucial DDR2100 stick is really quite capable after all! That's great news!

Try playing around with your memory latency/timings...it may be worth running 1:1 if it enables you to hit max with those settings.

exp,
My DDR timings are set at 2:2:2:7.... I tried to push my FSB earlier, but I couldn't post higher than 142, and anything above 138 was flaky at best. In fact, my CD-RW couldn't function properly until I brought it back down to below 138. I decided it wasn't worth it to push past 133, to make sure all my devices function properly. So, I figured it was between 133 1:1 or 132 3:4.

From the looks of the PCMark2002 results, you can definitely see the memory increase with the 3:4 setting.

My PCMark2002 scores for my P4 1.6A @2.13GHz, 132FSB 3:4, 2:2:2:7 DDR timings:

CPU Score: 5211
Mem Score: 5797
HDD Score: 716

my sandra scores changed drastically between:

133 FSB with 1:1 ratio and 2:2:2:5 timings (about 5050),

and

133 FSB with 4:5 ratio and 2.5:3:3:6 timings (about 5450)

Guess which I stuck with!!

I am aiming for stability, as this computer runs all of my game servers for my LAN.
So I use prime95, 3DMark2001 and Sandra to test stability. If Prime95 runs for a day or two,
then I am happy.
