If you're going with WinXP, go with AS MUCH MEMORY AS YOU CAN. If you can spend the extra $$$ to get 256 DDR then get it, otherwise, get the 256 PC-133.
Will Windows XP work must faster with 128MB PC-266 or 256MB PC-133 ?? Caching harddrive ? I am thinking that 256 even though it is slow memory will do great wonders over 128MB ?? But by how much is the question ??
When the memory prices go down.. I can get 256MB PC-266 .. But the problem is that I have to get rid of the 256MB PC-133 since u can't use both.
If I get 128MB PC-266, I can only add 1 more DIMM which I belive has to match for performance reasons ..?? So the total memory comes to 256MB PC-266.
Isn't 128 the bare minimum for running XP?
Dont even try to run XP without 256mb. The difference in performance between PC-266 DDR and PC-133 SDR won't be that noticeable. And you'll get greater stability and multitasking with 256.
I chose SDram because i allready had 1 256meg stick & only needed to buy 1 more to get 512 total, and the Quantum's doing great , nice & fast i am very happy with it.
But if i were gonna buy a new one today i would get a new Maxtors 740X drive.
