Which is best settings for games?

Just bought a 19" 1440x900 Viewsonic and am liking it alot. But I only have(or will have in a couple days) as 7600GT. Which settings would be best for high demanding games(Oblivion mostly). Sticking with 1440x900 and using lower details or using a lower res and higher detail settings?

Anytime my viewsonic is in any other res than 1440x900 it displays for best visual use 1440x900 and then asks me if I want to disable the message.

So is it best to use native res and lower details or the other way around. I just want it to look the best it can for what hardware I have.

BTW what are some other widescreen resolutions if I don't use 1440x900?

Stick with the native res.

i agree. if 1440x900 isnt available, the next best is 1280x800 (widescreen as well).

but you can probably go to 1152x864 or even 1024x768 if you wanted.

Or edit a config file and probably be able to get the exact resolution he wants.

Wouldn't 1024 x 768 look really funny on a widescreen monitor?

Yeah stick with WS resolutions if the game has support (either natively or via .ini edit). You'll need to make sure the WS resolution you want to use in the game is also a valid windows desktop resolution. These are easily added with the Custom Resolution thingy in the Nvidia control panel.

When I had my Barton XP and 9800 Pro I would sacrifice some visual details (and certainly no AA/AF) when I got my 2005FPW. Source games would just barely run smoothly @ 1680x1050 with mid details and stuff like shadows on low. BUt I definitely preferred the high resolution and I kept important details as high as possible. AA isn't really necessary at a high res and AF is okay just I'm usually too into the game to notice graphics much.

Of course, in games like BF2, setting some of the settings to Low just turns it into complete crap. You'll have to figure out what games are worth it to have details slightly down but native res or have to lower the res in order to keep some sort of decent visual quality.

Though I don't know how fast a 7600GT is... if it's near a 7800GT you should have no problem in most games except the newest and demanding games like FEAR, Oblivion, etc Of course you do mention Oblivion.. well don't expect to be able to run a high res or lots of visual details. I would sacrifice things like HDR in Oblivion.
