Which is best RAM for my Ryzen Build. 8x2 G.SKILL Flare X F4-3200C14D-16GFX 3200 CL14 Samsung B-Die or G.SKILL TridentZ F4-3600C18D-16GTZRX 3600 CL18. I expect the Flare X can run at 3466 @ 1.4v 14-14-14-34-48 1T but not much head room for OC's the 3600 TridentZ. Do not know the TridentZ Modules?

Rig will be an ASUS X470 ROG VII Hero. Considering either a Ryzen 5 2600X or 7 2700X CPU. Also considering upgrading to 8x4 Dimms in future.

Theoretically 3200 CL14 (4.37ns) is a better bin than 3600 CL18 (5ns) but both kits are B-Die based. Probably the 3200MHz kit is cheaper I would pick it. Also consider that is pretty hard to run RAM at 3600MHz on Ryzen systems

In Canada the G.Skill 3600 CL18 (5ns ) is 3/4 the price of G.SKILL Flare X F4-3200C14D-16GFX 3200 CL14 Samsung B-Die. So you saying F4-3600C18D-16GTZRX 3600 CL18 is the same RAM with Samsung B-Die with different Sub Timing ?

Right now the difference is between $260 Flare X CL14 3200 kit Vs a $198 TridentZ CL18 3600 Kit for the same Ram ?

I've a have feeling there both Samsung B-Die.

Samsung B-Die doubled in price once Ryzen came out.

Right NOW I'm on the verge of buying it where I paid $86 for 16 GB's of Samsung DDR3 Green back in the day of the Intel Z68 Platform.

Remember Patriot HYNIX was King with AMD Bartons.

It would be if it runs at the full DDR4 3600 speeds. Although like thigobr already pointed out, depending on the silicone lottery of your CPU (since the memory controller is on the CPU), you might have to run it a lower speed for stability. In that case and depending on what you have to dial it back to, the DDR 3200 kit with tighter timings would likely be faster.

Still running that platform under Win7 64-Bit can`t escape it it`s so God Damn Fast and fail Proof - Eats a lot of power !

Honestly, really the only difference you would see between the two kits you listed is if you are a person who likes to run synthetic benchmarks, and not actually use the PC. :p

Either one would be a good choice.

Captain Pedantic would like to point out that the correct numbers are 8.75ns and 10ns respectively; you possibly forgot to halve the DDR MT/s rate to get the clock speed.

That doesn't change the conclusion, of course.

Usandthem: I run my platform 24/7 and I do not want to stress the CPU Memory controller above 1.35v.

I'm not particularly a Gamer and more into Video Editing and Encoding, most the time I'm just a Internet Browser watching Stream Video. Don't ask how I capture or down load it - But I do like to challenge Benchmarkers ;o)

Meaning you can down clock TridentZ F4-3600C18D-16GTZRX to 3200 CL14 ?

Isn't the CPU related voltage vSOC for Ryzen? The regular memory voltage is what goes to the actual DIMMs, not through the CPU.

Been running a Z68/Sandy Bridge I7 2700K platform at 4.8/5.1Ghz , Samsung Green DDR3 at CL9 1866/2100 Mhz @ 1.2v for numerous years under Win7 64-Bit - Now, coming to 2020, I have to migrate to a new platform under Win10.

Times are changing, I'm getting old and there's a lot more cores and threads available with less Voltage/Watts. What can I say - I feel sorry for Minimalists - LOL.

Last time I ran an AMD platform was back in the Barton days when Hynix ruled.

So what do I buy a Hot Timing G.SKILL Flare X F4-3200C14D-16GFX at 3200 Mhz or higher frequency soft timing G.SKILL TridentZ F4-3600C18D-16GTZRX 3600 CL18 other then some other entry you guys want to throw at me ?

There are Members on this forum that claim to get over 4000Mhz for Ram Frequencies with Ryzen but I personally believe in tighter timings at lower frequencies.

Times running out, I'm about to pull the trigger on a purchase !

I have a ryzen build personally and have had good luck with Flare X and my research showed earlier versions of ryzen did play nice with Flare X but the newer models (or updated bios) should be stable with either one.

Here is something to think about. The X58 platform had triple channel. The best kits were the Elpida Hypers that did 2133MHz @ 8.8.8.2T They were faster/tighter/lower latency, for the platform @ 6.6.6.18 1T 1600MHz which they ran. IMO the tighter the timings the better. Seconday play a big role too. Was better to have a lower tRFC also. Decision is yours, good luck

Wait... now that you mentioned the price I went to check the correct specs... 3600MHz CL18 are not B-Die. Are the main timings 18-22-22-42? Probably yes, that's why they are cheaper!

The G.Skill 3600MHz with B-Die ICs have timings 16-16-16-36

In this case grab a set of Flare X and don't look back!

The 3200MHz kit has a higher SPD Speed of 2400MHz @ 1.20v VS the 3600MHz kit with lose timings. I'd go with the 3200MHz kit and try n push them a little bit further.

Makes me wonder if I made a mistake in buying the ASUS ROG X470 Crosshair VII Hero MB at this late date where I should have held out for the X570 on the horizon and populate it with a Ryzen 7nm 3 Gen offering PCIe 4.

Not too late in the build to change my mind as I can sell the X470 for approx the price I paid for it.

By the way I do agree with your choices for the Flare X but will it be the optimal Ram for a X570 platform ?

I suggest you look at Samsung Green DDR3 Dims (Puppy): M379B5273DH0-YK0. Deal at $100 for 4x's4 back then, then jumped to $300 for a 4GB stick for Intel Z68/I7 2700K platforms. The Military and NASA bought these CAS 9-9-9-24-1T @ 1.2v Dims with a solid 1866 to 2133 Mhz clock for Intel Sandy Bridge Platforms like crazy - Don't think I don't know about Ram.

Today Samsung Greens Dims are flooding the market for about $10 a stick as if they have no use today - Without a doubt the best Ram for Sandy Bridge.

I RUN a an Intel i7 2700K, 4 Core/8 thread Sandy Bridge, platform between 4.8 to 5.1 Mhz endessly 24/7 under Win7 64-Bit without a Hic-Up for the last 13 years.

I have to move on - That's why I'm posting and need advice from you puppies ;o)

Humm! I will select a Ram with tightest timing at a lower frequency that can OC, if that makes sense explaining High Density Dims - But Hi-Density is expensive like the G.SKILL FlareX 14CL without the RGB Vs G.SKILL Trident Line.

In my opinion the top RAM MFGr's are, in this order is Samsung, Hynx, Alpida then Micron.

Patriot DDR1 using Mozel sticks was the fastest ram back in the XP/going into Win7 days.

I don't think you're going to find any Elpida ICs on modern DDR4 DIMMs. All you see is Samsung and Hynix, with the rare Micron stick if you buy older DDR4.

Anyway, for my Ryzen (R7 1800x) I bought the fastest DDR4 I could justify with small heatspreaders to fit under my NH-D15. I wound up with Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3733. It downclocks to DDR4-3466 CAS/CL14, though with the UEFI I'm running right now on my X370 Taichi, it has reduced memory stability at that speed (which stinks; I hate what ASRock did when switching AGESA versions on this board). I had to update my UEFI to get Spectre mitigations, so I'm stuck. Bleh.

Anyway, you CAN downclock/tweak sticks with stupid fast XMP 2.0 settings that a Ryzen memory controller will never run anyway. I have DDR4-4400 waiting for my Ryzen 3 later this year. Should be interesting to see how fast I can run that stuff.

Well I settled on: Team Dark Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model TDPGD416G3200HC14ADC01. Timming 14-14-14-31-1T @ 3200Mhz 1.35 v.

Cheaper then G.Skill and also Samsung B-Die.
